INTRODUCTION

Sanofi Pasteur initiated a project to replace all packaging and batch filing records to digital storage. This was an important endeavor because it would generate zero waste, reducing our carbon footprint. On top of this environmental advantage, it would also be easier to access and easier to input for company employees.

The project goals were to involve the necessary team members to ensure all aspects of the project are met, investigate, test, and validate digital batch record systems, administer training to all necessary employees, efficiently roll out digital batch record system to all filing and packaging production buildings, and to successfully move the entire batch of records to the digital system.

PROJECT PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT EVALUATION

USING EARNED VALUE (EV) TO MONITOR PROJECT PERFORMANCE

The project manager used Earned Value (EV) analysis to monitor project performance, allowing her to take corrective action to get back on schedule or to adjust costs, if warranted. The data was also used for status reports to the stakeholders regarding costs incurred to date, work completed, and how the project was performing in terms of cost and schedule. In order to determine if they were on schedule and budget, the project manager used the EV formula: EV = % of completed work multiplied by the budget. The output offered the project manager a forecasted view of schedule and cost, allowing her to change course, if needed, to get the project back on track.

PROJECT’S BUDGET AT COMPLETION

HOW SCHEDULE & COST PERFORMANCE INDEXES ARE CALCULATED

MONITORING PROJECT PERFORMANCE THROUGH SCHEDULE & COST PERFORMANCE INDEXES

When monitoring your project using Cost Performance Index:

If the ratio is equal to 1 the actual cost is on budget

If the ratio is less than 1 the project is over budget

If the ratio is greater than 1 the project is under budget

When monitoring your project using Schedule Performance Index:

If the ratio is equal to 1 the project is on schedule

If the ratio is less than 1 the project is behind schedule

If the ratio is greater than 1 the project is ahead of schedule

AGILE PROJECT PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT VS TRADITIONAL METHODS

CONCLUSION

Sanofi Pasteur initiated a project to replace all packaging and batch filing records to digital storage and did so successfully and within the promised schedule and budget. The project manager and project team were thrilled to be able generate zero waste, reducing their carbon footprint. On top of this environmental advantage, it has been much easier to access and input the records for company employees. The project goals were achieved and the move from physical to a digital system was successfully implemented.
