Discussion Q1: Sparkling Wine in Northern Michigan) Week #5 Part ONE online lectures highlight different methods of producing sparkling wine or champagne. In particular, module C online lecture includes information about making Sparkling Wine in Michigan by highlighting MAWBY Vineyards and Winery in Michigan.  After watching the video clip,

· What are the advantages (and/or challenging issues) of producing good-quality Sparkling wine in Michigan?

· What other information or stories are interesting to you in terms of the history of making Sparkling wine in Northern Michigan?

Discussion Q2: Sparkling Wine and Champagne)  Week #5 PART ONE online lecture modules focus on Sparkling wine-making.  By now, I am sure you know all Champagne is sparkling wine, but not all sparkling wine is Champagne. Module A (Week #5 Part ONE) includes the video resource “How is Champagne made? The champagne making process explained.” Module B also includes an example of Mum Napa Winery (California) producing sparkling wine using a traditional method.

After your study of Week #5 PART ONE online lecture including these video resources:

· What THREE main lessons have you learned about Sparkling Wine and Champagne?

· Among those three, please include at least two unique aspects of making sparkling wine that somewhat differ from white-wine making and red-wine making (Week 4 lessons).

Note – please include the citation from these video resources, e-textbook, and/or online lecture files.  It is not necessary to look up other articles to respond to this discussion question.

Discussion Q3: Sherry) After learning and studying Week 5 PART TWO online lecture module B (production of Dessert Wines and Fortified Wines – Sherry), please respond to the following questions:

· In production of Sherry, what aspects differ from other types of wine-making that you `           have studied/learned so far?

· Week #5 PART TWO Module B online lecture also includes a video resource of the “wines of sherry by GuildSomm”.  It says “Sherry is a perfect harmony of nature and man-made process.” What are your main takeaways responding to this statement (i.e., why is Sherry a perfect harmony of nature and man-made process)?  In your responses, you certainly may highlight misconceptions of Sherry that were explained in the video resource and/or why sherry is a sophisticated wine style.

Discussion Q4: Online research about your selection) Week #5 online lectures relate to sparkling wine as well as dessert wines and fortified wines.

From among the following topics discussed in Week #5 online lectures, choose TWO that most interest you  and find more information that may not necessarily addressed in our online lectures in depth:

Examples are  Sekt; Prosecco; Cava; Sauterns; Hungarian TokaiPassito; Ice WinePino Sherry; Ruby Port; Tawny Port; or (any of your choice that relate to sparking and dessert/fortified wines).

Share  at least two of your main findings about each of your two choices with your classmates. And again, please do not forget including the in-text citations as well as the full citations (it is important for you to look up additional online articles besides your e-textbook and online lectures).

Then, at the end of your response, please include ONE interesting question that came up while learning your Week #5 online lecture.  Please clarify your specific question so that your classmate(s) can choose to respond to it.  Please do not include a question that easily can be found in our online lectures or e-textbook (points repeatedly addressed in our online lessons).
