We live in an era where technology is rapidly taking over various aspects of our lives. A good example is the use of robots that is slowly taking over the human labor in the operations taking place within organizations. This is because robots are believed to be faster, more efficient, and a cheaper way of producing goods and services. However, replacing human labor with robots tends to have more detrimental effects than benefits. Some of which include:
There is a high risk of data breach and other cyber security issues
There is a higher maintenance and installation costs
Switching a conventional workforce to a robotic one would mean a high considerable expense. This can create a barrier to smaller organizations with limited financial resources. This would mean that smaller organizations that cannot afford to automate their workflow will have to be left behind.
There is reduced flexibility
The use of robots can be very efficient hence improving the productivity of an organization. However, these machines are limited to when it comes to the scope of use thus can be a major disadvantage to companies that require frequent adaptation to changing circumstances. This is because machines can be a major liability in an instance where change is required to take place quickly.
There will be a massive loss of employment opportunities
The widespread of automation processes tends to create a great loss in employment opportunities thus may lead to a potentially serious social issues (DelGado, 2017). The emergence of self-driven cars is deemed to eliminate various positions a very short period of time. Robots may even overtake specialized fields such as medical diagnostics and surgical care.
There is also high anxiety and insecurity regarding the future
The emergence of automation in workplaces is a major concern in various professions. The future can be expected to completely change hence creating much anxiety and insecurity pertaining the future expectation of change.
In conclusion, we can conclude that the replacement of human labor with the use of robots tends to have more negative than positive impacts to the organizations as well as individuals who are likely to face it more by lacking a source of income following their replacement with robots in their respective professions.
