There are many goals which the company can be able to set regarding its workforce. One of the goals which can be ranked to have the highest impact training of the employees of the enterprise. Training ensures that the Starbucks workers can have skills which are required in the industry. The ranking of this strategic goals is 5 since it is expected to have a large impact on the development of the company. When the employees are well trained, they gain skills, knowledge, and expertise which is required in their work (Martocchio, Liao, 2009). This means that the employees will be more effective in their work. The employees will, therefore, be able to serve the customers of Starbucks effectively and efficiently around the world. This increases customer satisfaction which in turn increases customer loyalty.
Through word of mouth, the company is also able to attract new customers as a result of the quality services offered by their employees. It is, therefore, necessary to ensure that employee training has been put in place. Employee training also leads to career promotion and development. This is because the company will be helping the employees to increase their knowledge hence they become more marketable in the food industry. This encourages employees to remain in the company since it helps them grow and it also helps them develop their careers. The company will, therefore, achieve employee retention through this goal.
The second goal of the company is employee engagement. The company should be able to involve its employees in decision-making. This goal is ranked as being important (3). It will have a good impact on the company growth. If the management of the company involves its employees when making decisions, the employees will be able to give a wide range of ideas of how customer satisfaction can be improved. Since employees interact more directly with customers than the managers, they will, therefore, have the best ideas of how to improve the operations of the coffee company (Lawler, Boudreau, 2009). Engagement of employees in decision-making and operations of the company also makes the employees feel that they mean something to the organization. It makes the employees own the decisions made and also the policies which have been developed. This increases the need to see these policies succeed. Employee engagement, therefore, increases the willingness to support the decisions made by the management. This leads to the success of the company.
Another strategic HR goal is culture development. The Starbucks company should be able to develop its own culture. The culture which the company should develop is that which has respect, honesty, integrity, accountability, and responsible. The company should ensure that ethical behavior has been held with the highest importance. This goal is ranked 5 which means that it has the highest impact in the company. The ethical behavior of the employees is very critical for development. If the employees behave in a manner which is appealing to customers, the company can create a positive public image in the communities where it is located. This will give the company a good reputation which attracts more customers to the company. The culture development is therefore very important for the company.
Culture development should be enhanced, and the company should ensure that values have been set. Ethical standards should be set to ensure that every employee is aware of what is required of him or her. The company should also ensure that the necessary measures have been taken in making the employee understand the values and ethics which they should uphold. This makes employees develop a culture which is widely accepted in the community. If the company develops a culture which observes the laws of every nation, the company will be able to avoid lawsuits. This will also act as a cost-saving method. Culture development is, therefore, an important and strategic human resource goal of the Starbucks company.
The company should also set another goal aimed at increasing the employee benefits and enhancing its reward system. Increasing the benefits of the employees has been ranked 5 as having a high impact on the company. Employees like working in companies which show that they appreciate the services of their employees. The Starbucks company should be able to offer benefits to health care insurance, retirement plans, and also rewarding employees whose work is good. The reward system is very important for every company. When employees have many benefits, they feel appreciated, and they will not want to leave the company (Lussier, 2015). Most employees are motivated extrinsically. This means that giving benefits to these employees will motivate them to remain in the company and also to work even better which will increase employee productivity in Starbucks company.
Another goal is compensation of employees fairly. This is ranked as fairly important. The Starbucks company should ensure that employees are given salaries which are fair as compared to what the industry is offering. This will ensure that employees can pay their bills and also maintain their families. Fairly salaries also ensure that employee turnover rate has been reduced. Most employees look for companies which pay well. The company will, therefore, be able to retain well-skilled employees. The other HR goal is fair employee promotion which is given a ranking of 3 which shows that it's important. This goal ensures that employees in the company are promoted fairly. This encourages employees to work hard to earn the promotion which in turn increases their productivity leading to the growth of the company.
Another human resource goal is no employee harassment or discrimination. This is ranked 4 as being fairly important. This is because employee harassment gives a company bad reputation which reduces its sales. Employees harassment also does no attract skilled workers in the industry since employees are afraid of harassment (Becker, Huselid, Ulrich, 2011). This can be sexual, physical, and emotional harassment. There is also discrimination regarding gender, race, and nationality. The company should avoid all this. The last HR goal is the recruitment of talented workers. This means that the company should be keen during the recruitment process. When the company employs workers, who are talented and who love doing their job and working in a hotel environment, the company will have an easy time training and also instruct the employees. This is because this kind of workforce follows its dreams hence they will work with passion and they will require less supervision.
Starbuck’s potential for achieving these goals
The Starbucks company has been in business for a long time. The company has been able to penetrate into global market (Simon, 2013). The company has a strong leadership. The company also has appealing returns in its businesses around the world. All these will ensure that the company has been able to achieve all these goals. The potential of the Starbucks company for achieving all of these goals can be ranked at 5 which is the highest. This is because the company can ensure that all the human resource goals are achieved.
In conclusion, human resource strategic goals are expected to move a company from one level to the other. These goals will help Starbucks company to remain competitive in the industry which has become very competitive. These goals will also ensure that the company has been able to increase its profits which will mean that it will expand its operations in many parts of the world. These strategic human resource goals should be taken seriously, and they should be implemented to ensure development and growth have been achieved.
