Project Proposal
We at ABC Global will be proposing a facility relocation to enhance the capability and to be centrally located to the clients. It is our belief that by doing this we will maximize the profits of our products for they will be more readily available to the clients.
Stakeholders and Benefits of Facility Relocation
Stakeholders are those with interest in the project’s outcome. (What Is a Stakeholder in Project Management? 2017). They can be a project manager, employees, or clients. This project stakeholder includes the current and future clients, the employees, and the project management team overseeing the move. Our business must expand due to the organization's growth, product change, and economic fluctuation. Some of the benefits for the project are workforce, facilities, customers, and tax considerations.
Our business needs a new location to attract employees that are more qualified. We understand that most candidates look for prospective employment close to their homes or near the expressway. The company will look for a bigger facility with the ability to continue to expand, as their business increases by time. The current facility is not sufficient for the services and products that are currently needed. Customers shop based on their income, and as neighborhoods change, and the social economics of the area changes, we are seeing that our client's support is beginning to dwindle. Relocating can attract a new, larger group of customers (Brown, 2017). Also, tax considerations of certain cities near us offers tax breaks to bring new companies into their communities.
Project Resources
There are several resources needed to complete this project. These resources include finances, labor, the assembly of a project management team and contractors. We will also need to source material vendors and real state personnel to ensure we can facilitate the practices we conduct to make our products. Other areas to consider are the lateral effect on employees not immediately involved in the move. Depending on the stage of the project, the company may need to do some public relations work, like getting the community on their side to get approval even to begin building or relocate to an existing structure. There may be other internal resources needed as well, like individualized training to for project team members.
Steps to Assemble, Develop, and Manage the Project Team
When it comes to putting a project team together, there are six primary factors to consider. These include group size, composition, governance, identity, interactions, and mindset (Cobb, 2012). The first three elements are focused on team construction while the other three focus on how the team sees and deals with itself (Cobb, 2012). Team size should be approached with the thinking, smaller is better, but an efficient team needs diversity. The structure of the team needs to include everyone who knows the needs of the project from beginning to end. However, this does not mean that every member is involved from start to finish. Some members will be called in at various times during the project. The governance of the team can be either manager lead or self-governed (Cobb, 2012). Team identity is when the team recognizes that they are separate from the rest of the workforce (Cobb, 2012). This comes with where the team meets, works, and times and the ways that they communicate. The team mindset happens when the team has basic ideas, views, and values about how they should act and behave on the project. This can be broken down into roles and goals. (Cobb, 2012).
Conclusion
As our business increases, it is time for a new change and have a new facility. For a big change as this, it is necessary to assign key members of the staff and employees in order to work on this special project as a team. Regardless of the specific intricacies of a project, one of the first things that need to be accomplish is the creation of an effective project management team. This step will set the tone for the rest of the project and is of utmost importance. Like Goldilocks, you must be very particular in your team. Your team’s size and composition need to be just right and your leadership should be one that facilitates effective communication and encourage collaboration between the team members.
