System Quality
(http://www.usdoj.gov/criminal/cybercrime/)
The software industry has not yet arrived at testing standards for producing software of acceptable quality but not perfect performance. The most common source of business system failure is data quality. Studies of individual organizations report data error rates ranging from 0.5 to 30 percent.
The three main sources of poor system performance are:
Software bugs and errors
Hardware or facility failures caused by natural or other causes
Poor data quality
Quality of Life
Identity theft, computer abuse, and spam threaten our quality of life.
Identity Theft: Is a malicious attempt by an imposter to steal key pieces of information such as social security and credit card numbers to obtain merchandise and services in the name of the victim or to obtain false credentials.
Computer Abuse: Is the commission of acts involving a computer that may be unethical although they are legal.
Spam: Is a widespread form of abuse that consists of unsolicited, commercial e-mail.
Computer forensics is the scientic collection, examination, authentication, preservation, and analysis of data stored on or retrieved from computer storage media in a way that the information is usable as evidence in a court of law. The data that a computer user has deleted from computer storage media may be recoverable using various undelete tools provided by Norton Utilities and other vendors. Investigators can examine Internet logs and recreate e-mail messages that may no longer be visible to users.
