Application of E-commerce in Different Industries
(https://www.covisint.com/)
Let us discuss some useful applications of e-commerce in different industries:
The auto industry has created an Internet marketplace that serves the vertical market for automobile manufacturing. It is a central virtual stop for suppliers and buyers to share each other’s catalogs and set up automated purchasing and fulllment transactions.
A private exchange is a network owned by the buyer that permits the company and its designated suppliers, distributors, and partners to share product design, development, marketing, production scheduling, inventory management, and e-mail.
Various electronic payment systems help conduct e-commerce over the Internet. Digital credit card payment systems validate credit cards and arrange for issuing banks to deposit funds for purchases in the seller’s bank account. A digital wallet for the shopper stores their credit card and shipping information to allow 1-click shopping on Web sites such as amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com).
PaymentOne or Trivnet allows consumers to charge small purchases to their monthly phone bill.
A digital cash service called eCoin.net is client software that can exchange money with e-cash. Another e-cash user or merchant can accept the payment as e-cash. This is useful for people who do not have credit cards and wish to make web purchases.
The most popular peer-to-peer payment system is PayPal.com (http://www.paypal.com), which many companies use to pay for products or services over the Web. On PayPal.com (http://www.paypal.com) individuals or vendors need not set up accounts to accept credit card payments.
Digital checking and electronic billing presentation and payment systems provide a paperless method to electronically consolidate all bill payments and purchases to an existing checking account.
So far we have discussed some applications of e-commerce used in the daily business operations of different organizations. We will now understand some of the ethical and social issues of IS, which should be kept in mind when applying the concept of e-commerce in business.
