Comparisons of DNP and PhD Roles in Nursing
Compare and contrast the roles of the practice (DNP) and research (PhD) scholar.
A Ph.D. and a DNP are both called clinical distinctions for nurses, and they both prove that the nurse is a professional specialist in their profession. The key distinction is that a DNP is more concerned with medical procedure while a Ph.D. is more concerned with analysis. A DNP can be obtained in as short as one year of full-time study, while a Ph.D. needs at least three years of schooling (Canady, K. 2020). DNPs must recertify every five years, either by review or practicing hours, while Ph.D.-prepared nurses do not have a credential to recertify, apart from their advanced clinical credential.
How do these roles complement one another in translating research into practice?
How could these roles add value in addressing a practice problem at your workplace?
These roles can create more value to an institution by solving practice shortcomings. Nurses who have invested in these courses will have the expertise, abilities and knowledge to handle any clinical situation. In practice, there is also a reliance on one another to better utilize one's specific abilities to achieve the ultimate aim of bettering one's wellbeing (Hart, C., & Bell, P. 2021). In my workplace, I would incorporate both programs and work for the overall benefit of clinical outcomes. Extensive research will be meaningful in coming up with variety of solutions which can applied to address overlaying concerns. Moreover, working jointly will guarantee exchange of ideas that could boost productivity and output.
