· Read the posts of your peers and discuss their responses to these questions. Focus especially on those who disagree with what you have said and engage in friendly dialogue about the disagreements you have with them.

· Remember that how you choose to address these questions is up to you; there's no required procedure (for instance, you don’t have to answer each in a separate post or anything like that). The main thing is to get thinking and talking about these questions, and I look forward to reading your responses.

PEERS RESPONSE:

Reflect on Yourself

An ethical belief that I feel strongly about is abortion. I believe that abortion is both illegal and unethical because (1) advancement of medicine and science and (2) personhood starts during conception. I believe that the presences of contraceptives help to prevent abortion and thus, it should be made illegal and unethical (Thames, 2018). Secondly, I am a Christian and I believe that abortion is murder as the fetus has life and it is basically a person. There are instances that a person might be raped and thus, it would be permitted to have an abortion. However, I believe that the advancement of medicine and science can help to mitigate these issues. I view this situation to be seen as moral objectivity which is “the view that at least some moral truths are independent of the beliefs and values of any particular culture or individual” (Thames, 2018, Ch. 2.2). I believe that all cultures do not accept murder and abortion is murder as personhood starts during conception.

Reflect on the others

The issues of abortion have divided numerous American households as pro-life and pro-choice, conservative, and liberal (ProCon.org, 2021). The division of American households makes it difficult to have a consensus on abortion. The pro-choice believe that abortion is a matter of a choice that empowers a woman to decide on her life. On the other hand, the pro-life believe that abortion is murder and thus, it is illegal (ProCon.org, 2021). All of these arguments have valid reasons using relativism ethical theory. It shows that a person’s ethical reasons are based on their own beliefs without objectivity. Thus, cultural relativism comes to play with the beliefs of pro-life and pro-choice.
