1. I have only been to one of the hospitals on the list. After reviewing the data on the list it seems most patients are visiting the Hospital of Special Surgery and most likely recommending someone else. It also shows that not even 50% of patients are taking the survey. To me it seems that NYC hospitals are on the same path as hospitals across the country. Although Sound Shore Med Center is not a NYC hospital but a Westchester hospital they are still averaging just as well as NYC hospitals. These are just numbers to me. I think visiting a hospital depends o the location, the reason for the visit, and how the staff takes care of patients. If 300 or more patients are taking the survey then why are the percentages so low regarding the response rate.

2. I’ve personally never been to either of the hospitals listed on the Medicare patient survey results, however I have seen Mount Sinai being advertised on the television as well as the internet. The information displayed in the survey results tells me that 73% of patients who visited the Mount Sinai hospital would recommend the hospital to others because they received above average care during their overnight stays at the hospital. Whereas, 5% of patients opt not to recommend the hospital, due to some issues they might’ve encountered. The survey basically outlines that 71% of patients in the United States would recommend their hospitals, while 65% of patients in New York would recommend their hospitals to friends and family, which is pretty impressive. Because it shows that out of the entire United States, New York still carries a large percent of hospitals who try their best to provide the best possible care to patients. This cause previous patients to recommend the hospitals to future patients and increase revenue. I think everyone experiences things differently in life, so I don’t necessarily think that the survey would be helpful to me. I would rather go and experience the different hospital environments on my own.

3. I have visit a few of the hospital that are listed in the Medicare Hospital Comparison list provided. This data basically describe what I already know or experience. Based on personal experience and what I have seen or heard the percent are correct. The data basically tells me what I already knew, which is they need to improve somethings. Especially the wait time and the service that people are being offered. Compare to other hospital in the Country we are doing poorly in NYC than they are in other country. This information is very helpful in choosing what hospital to go to and get the service we need.

4. Out of all the hospitals on this listed, the only one I have ever used is Montefiore Medical Center.  Also, my husband had back surgery at Hospital for Special Surgery. The overall data tells me that people are satisfied with the services provided at these hospitals.  Also, the percentage where people said they would never recommend these hospitals are low from what I can tell.  There must have been a few events where people were dissatisfied.  The part that is interesting is the “Number of Completed Surveys.”  Based on the response rate, it does not seem like everyone responses to the surveys.  The results for South Shore, Bronx-Lebanon, Jacobi, St. Barnabas, North Central and Lincoln does not surprise me at all.  But then again, their response rates are extremely low.
