Featuring the News in Print |

Prepare: Stovall (2015) states, “Differentiating feature stories from news stories is misleading. The two actually have a great deal in common. The difference is in [the] emphasis” (p. 101). For this discussion, find two news stories from different print publications on the same topic. One should be a news story and the other should be a feature story. Since the story should be in a print publication, you can pick up a copy of your local newspaper or a statewide or national newspaper. You may also wish to visit your local library, which may have papers on display. The story should come from different publications: one being a traditional newspaper, and the other being from an alternative print publication where it is clear that the story falls under features. |

Reflect: As you read the news story and the feature story, make notes of some of the differences and similarities that you find in each. Be sure to incorporate concepts that demonstrate your knowledge from previous courses about the elements of news stories in journalism. |

|
Write: After analyzing each of the stories, write a 250- to 300-word respond that discusses the similarities and differences you discovered among the publications. In your initial post, you must include at least one in-text citation from the reading material and an additional in-text citation from a scholarly source that you locate in the Ashford University Library or from another credible source. At the end of your post, include your name and a full reference for all sources cited in the body of your post. All citations and references must adhere to APA style guidelines as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. .
