The two patients are Ann and Jeff Redrum, who are 64 and 74 years old respectively. The former has rheumatoid arthritis. She also smokes and is obese. She was recently diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and underwent Carotid Endarterectomy surgery to rejuvenate her blood flow. She also suffered a transient ischemic attack. Her husband, Jeff, appears to have sleep apnea and the suggested solution was to undergo a sleep study and be fitted with a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine. Both are addicted to smoking.

Teach: Identify (3) teaching areas to improve patient outcomes. Information to be taught to patient should include information about the mHealth app, safety guidelines, and how to interpret and act on the information that is provided. (Cite when appropriate). Remember to use bullet points.

75 points

1. Information about the mHealth application:

Cardiio is an app used to determine pulse and heart rates (Cardiio, 2019). It can diagnose problems in time and enable the patient – Ann – seek early treatment. DreamMapper can track Jeff’s sleeping patterns and get feedback on his ongoing therapy.

2. Safety guidelines for mHealth application:

Cardiio and similar apps sometimes diagnose heart rates wrongly, which may put the patient’s life at risk. The app should not be a complete substitute for a physician.

DreamMapper is typically used with a Respironics mask. The latter should be cleaned regularly. Replacement may also suffice (Philips, n.d.). Jeff should ensure he inputs regular reminders for such cleaning.

3. How to interpret and act on the information in the mHealth application:

· Cardiio leverages on the iPhone camera to measure heart rate (Cardiio, 2019).

· One can track any changes as they occur in real time and get an overall idea of their health status.

· DreamMapper enables patients to access their data remotely.

· The app should be used with compatible CPAP and BiPAP devices to reap maximum benefit from it (Philips, n.d.).

· DreamMapper also draws information from a Data Center to promote positive choices.

Evaluate (3):

Describe 3 ways you would determine and evaluate the success of the patient’s use of the mHealth app. (Cite when appropriate). Remember to use bullet points.

75 points

Evaluation #1:

Determine if the app solves the individual problems the patients – Ann and Jeff personally face, rather than its usability on a broad scale.

Evaluation #2:

Find out who the targeted users for such an app are and if the patients fit such a description (Mukherjea, 2016).

Evaluation #3:

Find out if the supporting equipment the patient uses, such as the aforementioned CPAP and BiPAP devices, compliments the app (Mukherjea, 2016).
