1. I second you on the fact that speaking to your baby plays a significant role in the development of his/her language and communication. The more you talk to your baby, the better. This is because there are plenty of different sounds and phrases used by parents when they speak a lot to their babies. When children learn more vocabulary, it helps boost their language comprehension and improves the amount and variety of vocabulary they can understand and use. Also, it is not all about developing language skills. Speaking with babies facilitates their brains development, and when they are older, will make them do well in school. I would tall to my baby even when I was quite sure he did not understand a thing but he still would smile back and that was encouraging. By the time he went to school, he would talk way much compared to how his sister would talk at his age. I, therefore, could like to encourage mothers to learn to speak to them.
2. It is very true that a parent's role is very important and crucial for a child's development. Parent's are the first people children interact with and learn from, so it is very important that parent's are leading by example when raising their kids. I think it is very important that parent's are encouraging and responsive towards their children when they are going through different stages in their life so that they can successfully achieve certain milestones.
3. Parents, family, and caregivers are all part of an important role during each stage of development and especially with language, the amount interactions and exposure with different experiences help with all major development stages. There are milestones that occur between infant and toddler stages they are cognitive, physical growth, emotional, social, language, and brain development. The environment an infant is raised into the toddler stage can be the most important stage of development and all the communication between the parents leads to the milestones of development. It is known that a baby is not taught basic motor skills like rolling over, crawling, and walking all they need is an open space to learn the skills. Some major milestones are rolling over, grasping rattle, sitting up without support, standing, grasping with thumb and finger, standing alone, walking, builder a tower of two cubes, walking up steps, and jumping in place. All these milestones occur and with the support and interactions of parents and family the healthy devilment of these can happen at the right stages (Martorell, G. Papalia, D. Feldman, R., 2014).
4. Being present throughout a child’s upbringing is something that has become more talked about with the advance of technology. I often sit back and watch in a public space how people together are disconnected being on their phones instead of interacting. Is this something you have witnessed? Is it something you work toward controlling? If so, how?
5. The fact that both parents work does have an effect on the development of the child, but measures may be taken to avoid their child having any disadvantages or advantages of their development. For instance, working or not does not mean that the child will have great development. In the mid-to-late 1980s, according to researchers theorize that the more transitions in family structure that a child experiences and goes through the worse the progress may be seen from the child causing a slower delay in development (Fomby & Cherlin, 2007). Sometimes there are families where one parent stays at home to raise their child but the time the parent devote to their child is not quality and does not help develop a positive effect on the child. These are few examples of positive impact and negative impact. The positive impact is a great financial status which will provide a better quality of life as well as the parents will be able to start a college saving, good education, funds for child’s activities, and a great home. Another great positive impact is setting an example to their children about being independent in life and as well as teaching them the work ethic. The negative impacts are a difficult time to connect with their child and have difficult time being for their child emotional support which can affect their development. Another negative impact is that the child may develop behavioral mood swings and in the absence of their parents the child may develop inappropriate behavioral.
6. Depending on the specific situation, having both parents working could affect a child’s development while others may not be affected. Per the textbook, the most important element in quality of care is the caregiver; stimulating interactions with responsive adults are crucial to early cognitive, linguistic, and psychological development (Papalia, Martorell & Feldman, 2014). Therefore, if you have a caregiver, other than the parent that is focused on the development of the child, there should be little to no issues. Having a stable home, caregiver, and/or school will enable children to thrive and succeed in any environment. As long as the parent carries the same developmental and interactive processes into the home outside of the work schedule, a child’s development should not be affected. If you have a parent/parents who let their work life affect their homelife, children may less interaction therefore their development may lack. As long as there is a positive home environment, most children will succeed. From personally experience, my daughter has had no developmental issues with me working fulltime, being student as well as being a single mother. Myself, my parents and my sister have all been on the same page about what does and does not need to be done to help our children positively develop and succeed.
