1. Very nice post explaining the need for a literature review. One part you mention “During the literature review process, the researcher should maximize the use of human resources. Human resources in the literature review process include colleagues, scholars, librarians, etc. additionally, the researcher should also implement the use of search tools and existent literature goes hand and hand with this week’s assignment. This being that we have to use 13-15 sources to complete the assignment. This is a considerable increase from what we are used to using.
2. According to Hacker and Sommers (2017), a literature review is “a psychology term paper that summarizes what is known about some psychological topic” (p. 109). A literature review can be used for additional research and it could also be used to further emphasize on a topic. The importance of this scientific form of review is to be sure the research is correct and to able to provide additional support for a topic. The more support of a claim, the better the research. Literature reviews also consist of finding the most recent articles, within 5 to 10 years. Using articles that are more recent can be a crucial part of the research. Science can change, with further research, so staying as recent as possible is key. According to Hacker & Sommers (2017), a literature review consists of three main parts. The first is an overview of the topic. This gives the author a chance to make his or her stance or purpose of the paper. This also gives the audience a look into what is being written. The second section is the main part of the paper, which is the most important part. The author provides other articles as evidence of the claim, using recent study. This section also outlines important sub-topics that are key ideas to the entire paper. Lastly is the closing section, which recognizes the main conclusions of the review and discusses the reasons for further research, all of which is important in research.
3. The purpose of a literature review is designed to provide an understanding of the discussed topic. In this one will look for inconsistencies in the literature and or gaps in the provided research and gathered data presented. One will also review previous studies and compare/contrast the findings while still keeping the open questioning for the researcher and or the research at hand.( Hacker, & Sommers, 2017) This is very important in the process of research as it allows for the reviewer to critique and have an unbiased approach in the findings from the study and be able to review the results found. It also allows for the ability to critically evaluate the research in the filed of study as well as provide evidence that may be able to support ones own findings. (Hacker, & Sommers, 2017) Thank you.
4. I want you to reflect on the concept Habits of Mind. Use the link to review some examples of this concept: https://www.teachthought.com/pedagogy/what-are-the-habits-of-mind/
Given what you understand about the Habits of Mind, which 'habit' do you think is most important personally to you in terms of thinking like a researcher? Being a good researcher is about developing skills- skills that you can use beyond research but really shift how you learn and think about information. Research is more than a science, it truly is an art.
5. For those who are interested in going into graduate school, what are some graduate programs that you have found interesting?
6. I was not aware until a few classes back that I could find a job with only obtaining my Bachelor of Science in Psychology. I will utilize my degree and work as a substitute teacher because it would increase my pay and give me a more flexible schedule. I will need to further my education and attend graduate school to work as a Special Education Teacher with children who have moderate to severe behaviors. In this career, I will need to obtain my Master's Degree and get my credential (Greco,et.al., 2020). I have not yet prepared myself for this goal because of the expense and I just need to take a small break from school after graduation. During my small break from school, I will prepare myself for graduate school by making a small saving to fray the cost of taking out student loans.
