Mr. John Smith

The Corporation for National and Community Service

Austin, Texas 73301

Dear John Smith:

The Bismark and Mary Thomas (BMT) Community Center has been faced with the same challenges of small non-profit organization in funding.

The Bismark and Mary Thomas Community Center has been working on receiving funds to acquire some new computers. The less fortune students in the area are sharing five computers for homework and school projects. This has caused many students to stay later to complete homework and school projects.

The computers we do have were donated by various donors, however without more computers the students will continue to struggle with homework. Without additional funds, BMT can continue to function, but only in a limited capacity. I therefore submit the following grant proposal for your consideration.

Respectfully,

Von Carl Thomas, Jr.

Director of Men’s Development, BMT Community Center

Informative Abstract

The Bismark and Mary Thomas Community Center in Terrell, Texas is facing the need of acquiring new computers. The center is getting more students every week and just doesn’t have enough computers to help the students with homework and school projects. The five computers that were donated to the center are not enough for the students. Parents are worried that their kids are staying up to late trying to complete homework. The center has asked for monetary donations to purchase new computers, and has had very little luck in raising money for new computers.

Our staff has been planning various fundraisers to help raise the funds for new computers. In the meantime the staff has been bringing in personal laptops to try to offset the shortage of computers.

A detailed breakdown of projected costs establishes the need for a $6,223.00 grant to purchase 7 Dell OptiPlex 5260 All-in-One computers, which will allow us to help more students with homework and school projects.

Currently we are the only non-profit in Kaufman County providing these services to the community. The extra computers will not only help the students, but help the community in job searches, resume writing, and various other needs that might come up.

Introduction

Overview

Our community doesn’t have the means to help everyone in the community that needs help. The Bismark and Mary Thomas Community Center is currently facing a shortage in computers. We need additional computers to continue to provide a safe environment for students to complete homework and complete school projects. The computers are also used for college essay and application, resumes, job searches, and online college courses to name a few things it benefits.

Background

The mission and goal of the Bismark and Mary Thomas Community Center is giving back the community that has given so much to us. Currently we have more students using the center for homework and school projects. At the same time we have experienced an increase in other needs for the few computers we currently have on hand. We are working diligently to provide a great service to the community and currently we are facing the shortage in computer resources.

Statement of Problem

The five computers we currently have are not enough for the demand of computer use. Also the current computers are older models, and need some updates to continue to help the community.

Our after school tutoring program has increased in numbers since the 2018-2019 school year. The tutors are doing a lot of tutoring with the school assignments given, but the older students are needing to write papers and do research, which is requiring the use of the computers. Some students
