Midterm Part 1: Visual Art Project Image/Text ART1000 Foundations of Visual Literacy: Summer 2020
This part of the midterm involves the marriage of a found image to a found text. Step One: Search for an image, use the newspaper, magazines and the internet, look for something that you find interesting, provocative, sublime or boring. 5 pts. Step Two: The text you use in the project can be the title of an article in a magazine or newspaper, a caption from a textbook, the catchphrase from a favorite product, the punch line of a joke. 5 pts. Cut and paste the text and image together. You are making the creative decisions of how you think best the text should appear, how it should accompany the image. The text can be placed on the surface of the image, below, above, or on the side. Think about the size, font and color of the text all of these details will alter the interaction of text and image. Write up a description (two paragraphs or more) of what you chose and how the image and text change when they are joined together. How does the image change when paired with the text? 5 pts. How is the text altered when paired with the image? 5 pts. Saturday, May 30, 2020 My example that illustrates this assignment was very random in inspiration. For some reason the Taj Mahal in India popped into my head. Following that I thought of the charitable organization, Habitat for Humanity. I did a search for Habitat and discovered that there was an international arm of the organization. I liked that it gave the pairing of the image to the text a sense of logic. The Taj Mahal as a fixer upper for some lucky family that will assist in the rehab and then move in.
