Visual Analysis: Level, Trend, Variability Infographic – Accessible Version
The primary tool used to document behavior changes is the graph. (Mittenberger, 2015)
1. Level: indicated by the relationship of the data points with the vertical axis. High, Moderate, Low. (Think about measuring the average height.)
2. Trend: overall direction of data path. Increasing, decreasing, zero trend.
3. Variability: range of data points around the mean. Increased variability makes it difficult to predict future patterns, which is necessary to achieve experimental control.
