Essay #3 Controlled Research Paper
A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry is a play written in the last 50 years that touch on issues we still face today in American society. The play touches on issues of justice, equality, and fairness between men and women and in society as a whole. While A Raisin in the Sun explores themes of family and identity, it also explores issues of racism, feminism, the American dream, and more.
In Essays one and two you discussed our readings by discussing your own ideas about the literature. In Essay three, you will do this as well, using quotes from the play, and additionally, discuss the secondary source: “Justice in a Different Key” by Kristin Matthews.
Assignment: explore one major theme the play addresses and discuss why this play is still relevant today. Aim to focus on one of the main characters in A Raisin in the Sun and use your own understanding and Matthews to prove your points. Why does the play still resonate with contemporary viewers? Where do we will see these issues happening today? Explore your thesis statement with support from the play AND with support from one of the secondary source posted on Blackboard. Be sure to discuss the characters and use their dialogue and interactions to discuss how these themes are addressed and to prove your argument. As always, be sure to discuss the significance of your insights.
NOTE: You must use primary quotes from the play AND secondary quotes from the research provided on Blackboard. You must include at least two - three primary and two - three secondary source quotes. You must introduce these quotes and discuss them. In addition, you must include one paraphrase from the secondary source material.
