· Selection, Installation, and Secure Configuration of Operating Systems

Introduction

Unit 7 features a hands-on virtual lab that involves installation and secure configuration of an operating system. The configuration will include activities such as setting up user accounts and policies and reviewing the security options that are available as part of most modern operating systems. In addition to the practical technical application of these concepts, Unit 7 also covers the theoretical and analytical aspects of operating system selection, installation, and secure configuration.

Objectives

To successfully complete this learning unit, you will be expected to:

1. Install and secure an operating system and securely configure.

2. Select an operating system that you believe to be most secure and support that selection.

3. Set up user accounts and policies.

4. Configure operating system security controls.

5. Exhibit proficiency in writing, critical thinking, and research topic areas in IT security fundamentals.
