Topic 1
I am going to request letters of verification from 2 former Fire Chiefs and my current Battalion Chief, my direct supervisor. Our current Fire Chief is new and doesn’t know me, what I’ve done, or what I am capable of. The new chief must rely on past performance evaluations and/or characterizations by others. My current Battalion Chief has first hand knowledge of my competencies. My former Fire Chiefs have some specific knowledge about my experience in areas not observed by my current supervisor. Specifically, these 2 former chiefs can address some of my involvement as a union president, and some specific training development directly tied to some course outcomes. I will get letters, but I would use performance evaluations, certificates, and course syllabi to validate my learning if I couldn’t.
Topic 2
Certifications- attest to courses completed and hours of instruction
Course Syllabi as student and as instructor- lists course outcomes and can be directly linked to petitions, outcomes, resume, and autobiography.
Performance evaluations- documented evidence written by same person who will write a letter of verification. Categorized to meet numerous outcomes in numerous courses.
Proposal- I wrote, submitted, and presented a staffing and budget proposal following an audit of city resources and contracting a company to perform a GIS study.
Job description- characterizes work that I am expected to perform. I will include positions, other than fire captain, that I perform in during wildfires and technical rescue.
I need to go back and include some of these documents in both the expanded resume and autobiography. The connection is important so evaluators have more than a piece of paper (certificate), or a letter of verification that would have to stand by itself. The goal is to prepare a complete package, with each component providing support for experiential learning. Thoughts? Thanks.

Topic 1:
I intend to ask for letters of verification from several of my co-workers. One of those co-workers will be a Captain that I have worked with in my role as a firefighter. Other members will be those I have worked with in my role as a Captain. Those co-workers will be, Battalion Chief(s), the Chief, and Assistant Chief. I will provide all of those mentioned with sample letters of verification, as well as the course outcomes for each class that I intend to petition. In the case of being unable to obtain a letter of verification, I intend to include certifications I have earned that apply to the course outcomes of the classes I intend to petition.
Topic 2:
Certificates of training - These include their own outcomes that align with the course outcomes of classes I intend to petition.
Letters from employers/supervisors - These letters of verification will satisfy the primary documentation requirement of the course petitions.
Essays - Essays I have written will provide proof of the learning that I am claiming to have acquired.
