FIRE SAFETY
Florida Atlantic University. 2013. FIRE SAFETY MANUAL. https://www.fau.edu/facilities/ehs/info/Fire-Safety-Manaul.pdf.
In this article, the university is broadly concerned with the reduction of deaths caused by accidental fires and also the damage to the properties. The main objective of the corporate authors is to prevent the ignition of the unwanted fires and to reduce the hazards caused by the fire. The article also trains on the different measures that can be taken to prevent such cases such as installing wet or dry risers in a building which helps detect incase of fires and automatically runs to help reduce or put of the fire. People are also made aware of the way to conduct themselves in such cases by switching off the electricity mains walking calmly without running or panicking towards the fire exit and assembling at a certain fire point in order to identify the number of people that may be trapped inside in order to rescue them.
Health and safety executives. June 25, 2014. Fire safety. http://www.hse.gov.uk/toolbox/fire.htm
The authors of this article focus on the necessities of fire and what to do to prevent fires from occurring. Fire is brought about by the presence of three elements namely fuel like wood and plastics, oxygen which promotes combustion and its found in the air and ignition sources which are the sources of fire like naked flames and electrical equipment among others. However, the authors further explain that in order to prevent the fire from occurring, there must be some risk assessment as to what can cause the fire for example sparks and also how the risks can be managed. If the cause is uncontrollable, the authors say that the people working in the premises should keep sources of ignition and flammable parts separate, avoid heater knocks to prevent accidental fires, should have the necessary equipment that will aid in putting off the fires quickly in case the fire occurs.
Occupational Safety and health council. 2017. Guidance notes on fire safety at workplaces. http://www.labour.gov.hk/eng/public/os/C/FireSafetyWorkplaces.pdf
In this article, the authors discuss the precautions to be taken in case of a fire. If the alarm rings are indicating that there is fire, the workers should leave towards the door that is written EXIT in red after which they should assemble at the fire assembly point. Fire warning systems should regularly be tested to ensure that they are in the best of their conditions so that in case of an emergency they can be able to operate well and alert people. Firefighting. Every workplace or institution should be provided with firefighting equipment’s to ensure that there are at least enough fire extinguishers to be used in the premises in case of fire. The authors further insist on employees training on how to conduct themselves in cases of fire and what is required of them in such cases. Fire drills should as well be carried out at least once a year to assess how people would conduct themselves in the case of fire.
