Leadership Communication

Analyze the issue you are facing as the leader in this scenario

The case presents that the effects of Katrina caused the water supply in the area of Brown Trout Bay to be hampered severally. The hampering of the water supply in the area due to the effects of Katrina made the inhabitants to face several problems in the use of proper water supply according to the justification that is required towards the eradication of the challenge (Gamble, & Gamble, 2012). Controlling the situation was a sole responsibility, which needs to propound all the other activities that would save the citizens from facing any other degradable issue within the area. The main problem faced by the leader in the case is finding the responsible and right individuals to take part in the particular jobs that would cohesively solve the existing problem. Acquiring the right people, who possess the appropriate personalities, is a fundamental need for the situation to be resolved. According to Jum Rohn, leadership challenges require an individual to be healthy and not to be a ruse. A leader needs to be kind but not weak or being a bully. A responsible leader should be thoughtful instead of being lazy (Van Wart, 2013). This situation calls for a humble leader who is not timid, proud, or arrogant but one who has a sense of humor and without fear. These serve as fundamental virtues that a good leader should possess.

Describe the leadership style(s) that will best complement the needs of the work team, including supporting leadership theory/ies.

A good leader should have several personalities, which gives him or her a proper chance and platform to relate with the subjects and ensure that he or she is competent and productive. A proper leader should be in a position to sense always with an instant, which is one of the best forms of leadership for a bug team of different individual with various personalities. This calls for the virtue of taking a more laid-back personality on leadership, while it also calls for the act of assuming a more authoritative role. Leadership is dynamic because of the drastic changes in the environment and people. Concerns and conceptualizations are essential values that are required in the illustration of leaders in various situations (Thompson, 2018). Abstract principles are usually consistent. However, they are operational and practical aspects, which may vary substantially and they are critically fundamental for responsible and effective leaders. Organizations are dynamic, and new aspects concerning them develop with time. A good example is a case where communication patterns undergo continuous changes in a way that they end up being fundamentally different within the last quarter century due to the existence of the internet.

Communication and leadership are always intertwined, where the form of communication skills that are required by leaders should change as well as their concomitant responsibilities. A leader is required to use various styles within the same team of individuals. As well, various events, projects, and seasons demand distinct leadership styles. It is essential to know that not all styles in leadership are possessed equally or can operate similar functions effectively. It is not right to think that a single style may work in another team. Every team required a confident leader who can lead and ensure that things work out effectively because the teams have different people who possess different personalities and work styles (Thompson, 2018). Confident leadership only works out in certain conditions; for instance, leadership styles that can work well with analytical introverts may not succeed with the emotionally intelligent introverts. Techniques that may work well for the big team may fail to be useful for the small teams. This situation calls for a situational leadership style. For the leaders to be successful they ought to be in a position to handle the existing problem through:

· Identifying the problem and handling it directly

· Being able to run the problem into an opportunity through proper communication of a compelling vision that can set the problem within a context that may not be visualized by ordinary individuals.

· Being able to alight people to support the suggested vision.

· Being in a position to mobilize and motivate other people into taking action.

· Working collaboratively and persistently alongside other people towards solving the existing problems.

Describe the communication and listening style(s) that are best suited for this scenario.

The appropriate communication styles in this situation are directing and motivating. This communication style is peculiar and not too familiar. In this case, the leader needs to interact with other people effectively towards directing them on the appropriate strategies to solve the issue and motivating them. This communication style demands for a leader to possess a warm and approachable character of approach, which creates a quick and positive approach to the team. An individual should make direct eye contact with the team and should share a word with strangers within the organization as they come across one another. A leader should have a proper human interaction (Thompson, 2018). He or she should be open to sharing encounters and encoring the team members in every situation. A leader can decide to bring out an encounter or confidence of an exclusive person as a motivation, which may end up being appreciated positively. Proper communication skills will ensure that a leader attracts the team and gives them confidence as it builds self-esteem within the leader. This situation requires a leader who is ready to be on service as it is the highest call. The communication tone is vital to ensure that the leader gets a positive response from the subject. The leader should have the proper emotional control, facial expression, tone, and feelings in his or her communication.

Describe the role of social networking and technology communications in addressing the situation.

Social networking and technology are useful in ensuring that there is the right communication system for the leaders. It will ensure that information is shared appropriately to the respective team, which will allow the situation to be dealt with according to the right urgency. Social networking will also create a proper rapport between the management of the organization and the affected individuals to ensure that the management receives feedback from the affected individuals and that the issues are solved effectively and in time (Gamble, & Gamble, 2012). It will give the leaders a chance to reach out to the team effectively regardless of the distance in a location that exists between them. Social networking and technology reduces communication difficulty, ensures a proper connection and accuracy in sharing information. It ensures the organization's growth, and it allows for a proper and mutual understanding of the needs of the team and the affected individuals (Van Wart, 2013). It allows for active listening, learning, and responding to the existing challenges that affect individuals. It will keep the leaders at alert because it offers information in time and ensures that the leaders have the right period to respond and create a conducting environment.

Use the leadership Perspective Model (see Figure 5.1 in the Leading with communication text on pages 92–93, (In attachments), and predict the most critical areas of focus and perceptions of the followers in the scenario.

It is appropriate to focus on the high importance of both the employee and the leaders. Focusing on this will ensure that the situation is solved on level ground and no party will complain or feel of discrimination through the problem. It will also ensure that all teams are given an equal chance to participate in the problem. All factors connected to the issue are essential in the problem and needs to be dealt with maximum attention. The affected individuals should be given an equal chance to speak out their feelings and even suggest their needs (Van Wart, 2013). Giving the affected individuals a chance to contribute to the situation will ensure that the solution followed is fair and accepted by all. The leadership should also be given space to exercise their authority but advice to ensure that they are fair and just in their decisions and operation.

Describe how your leadership actions and communication strategies will ensure interpersonal and organizational effectiveness.

Leaders play an essential role in ensuring that individuals in an organization interact well and are in a positive mood to work without any challenges. Leaders are responsible for creating a proper working environment in organizations. The policies that leaders enact and implement are responsible for ensuring an excellent working condition in them, and they affect the productivity level of the workers. Leaders also influence interpersonal effectiveness through their strategies for conflict solving (Gamble, & Gamble, 2012). The communication skills employed by leaders determine the mode of interaction within the organization. Leaders should ensure that they have a proper rapport with the members in the organization and should be open for consultation at any time. They should ensure that conflicts are solved relatively and that every party is given an equal chance to share their thoughts and feedback. They should also ensure that the rest of the team work effectively and are motivated in their achievements. Members of the organization need to be given a chance to prove their effectiveness at work.

Describe the role of communication in resolving the issue.

Communication is essential in this case to ensure that the issue is met appropriately and that the right solution is achieved. Proper communication will ensure that the leadership understands the magnitude of the problem from the affected individual's feedback. By understanding the magnitude of the problem, the organization will be in a position to strategies and come up with the appropriate solutions that will ensure that the issue is solved in good time and in the right way (Gamble, & Gamble, 2012). Proper communication will ensure that the right parties are involved in the problem-solving process correctly and that they are given a chance to contribute effectively. The incorporation of the necessary parties will do work, and the best solution will be achieved in a short time. Proper communication reduces time wasting and ensures that the management comes up with an acceptable solution within a short time.
