Unit 1 (HIP4OO) – Life Map Assignment

Overarching Learning Goal 1. Students use practical experiences to critically assess their own understanding of personal life

Unit 1 (HIP4OO) “Life Map” YOUR TASK:

✔ Create a Life Map that clearly and creatively represents your decisions, values, resources, development, goals and events that have best contributed to YOUR personal development and achievement.

✔ The map represents YOUR LIFE to date and your plans/preparation to transition to adulthood.

✔ Create a Google Slide Presentation (BYOD – Google Drive – to be uploaded to D2L upon completion).

✔ NO PowerPoint, NO Prezis and NO Bristol Board Presentations (any variations require teacher approval)

✔ Use one slide or page per topic to organize your project into clear sections while providing enough detail to answer the question and draw on your life experiences (18-19 slides required for your final project).

✔ Include pictures, photos, drawings, videos, images, media to create your masterpiece (APA referencing).

✔ Each of the content pieces outlined below should connect to your life and experience. Course connections made with personal examples and details to demonstrate understanding.

✔ Make sure you include all of the criteria with specific headings to earn full marks.

Life Map - THE CONTENT/CRITERIA REQUIRED (Note: Rubric will be available on D2L in Assignment Folder): Ensure you include ALL of the following, they should be accurately applied and well explained with clear personal examples to demonstrate your knowledge of these course concepts and applying them to your own life and your personal journey and transition to adulthood:

1) Introduction – Life Map Title, Mission Statement, Inspiration (5 marks) Slide 1 - Title/Mission Statement: Come up with a title for your life map assignment. Your title should act as a ”Mission Statement” that is personal, represents your goals and will guide your transition to adulthood. Include the title of our project “Life Map”, HIP4OO and your name.

Slide 2 - Inspiration: Explain how you came up with this mission statement and why it represents you. Include any other forms of inspiration (people, quotes, songs/lyrics, achievements) - Include an embedded/in-text citation and Reference in APA format for this resource. Write a description to explain how you have been inspired/motivated and what is helping you currently maintain your focus in your journey through adolescence. How does it relate to you personally and why is it a meaningful representation of your transition to adulthood.

2) Adolescent Development Tasks (10 marks) For each of the following 5 adolescent development tasks create a slide and include the following:

- Identify specific examples of adolescent development tasks that you have addressed. Explain the connection between meeting your developmental needs and your behaviour/actions/success.

- Discuss specific actions that you have taken to work on these development tasks and how you are learning about yourself and working towards becoming more autonomous as a result. Within your explanations, compare the roles of adolescents and adults (what are you doing now, what do you see other adults in your life doing that make them independent and self-reliant and what areas do you need to further develop).

- Explain the importance of initiative, persistence and motivation in achieving personal goals. Specifically identify responsibilities you will assume and personal qualities required to take on adult roles in the future.

Slide 3 - Understand who you are (Accept and Manage Changing Body) Slide 4 - Develop Mature Relationships (Participate in Social Experiences) Slide 5 - Assume Responsibility and Independence Slide 6 - Make Effective Choices (Develop Personal Resources Helpful to Future Goals)

Slide 7 - Prepare for your Career 3) Transition to Adulthood (10 marks)

For each of the following 4 areas of the Transition to Adulthood: identify specific examples of goals, plans, values, inspiration, actions taken that you have currently addressed or are working towards achieving. Slide 8 - School � Career Slide 9 - Family Home � Own Home Slide 10 - Responsibility to the Family � Responsibility to the Community Slide 11 - Others’ Care � Self-Care

4) Decisions – REASON Decision Making Model (10 marks) Choose one specific area in your transition to adulthood to focus on and outline an important decision you have to make. Slide 12 - Identify ONE decision to make using the REASON decision making model that demonstrates your personal growth & development showing maturity and represents your journey through adolescence/towards adulthood. Use specific examples to represent the decision as a whole and how it relates to your important decision. Ensure you clearly outline and include all parts of the REASON model to demonstrate your understanding of your decision and the model itself. Slide 13 - Evaluate and reflect on the effectiveness of your decision being outlined by the model. For example – did it help you weigh a variety of options, better see the pros and cons, organize your ideas etc. Explain how it worked for you and what you took from being able to use a model to outline a decision. How does it compare to other decision making styles and how can it prepare you for the transition to adulthood.

5) Values (5 marks) Reflect on your priorities in the following areas by drawing on specific points in your life where you have been influenced by or acted on your values. Ensure your examples are specific and relate to your transition. Slide 14 - ONE value you have been influenced by your parents – Provide one specific value that you have, when it was instilled in you and who or what influenced you to have this value Slide 15 - ONE value you currently hold that influences your current life - Identify this value and an area that is influenced by this school, friends, family etc. through a specific example. Slide 16 - ONE value you want to prioritize in the future as you transition to adulthood and independence - Identify this value and how it will influence your decisions with a specific example situation where you are taking action.

6) SMART Goal (5 marks) Slide 17 - Create ONE SMART Goal: Identify a personal short-term or long-term goal using all of the SMART components. Label the SMART components and explain your goal and how you’ve made it SMART and how you will work towards achieving it. Slide 18 - Reflect on your goal: Discuss the goal’s importance in your transition to adulthood, how it will help you move towards independence (development task of adolescence/transition to adulthood) and the essential skills and knowledge needed to achieve them. Explain the importance of initiative, persistence and motivation in achieving personal goals

7) References (5 marks) Slide 19 - Include any references you used in your project (quotes, resources, pictures etc).

- Proper referencing - Embedded/in-text citations should occur within your slide show where resources are used. - References Slide should be included here (full APA format, A to Z order, no number/bullet points) - Note: Any pictures used should have at least the URL link included

8) Overall Presentation Marks (5 marks) Your life map (Google Slide) will communicate the following required information:

o Complete – Information is descriptive, effective, clear, and easy to interpret o Organized, use of headings to clearly show various components and sections of the project o Context - information is logical, uses time frames and represents the individuals journey. o Project is neat, has flow, creativity using images (drawings, pictures, graphs, maps, etc.), layout,

symbols, labels, colours o Formal language used, spelling, grammar, capitalized I, punctuation, spell-check, flow o Student attends class and participates in class, uses time wisely, submitted on-time
