Interface Design Typeface Rationale Jersey Steininger
When Redesigning the Yale School of Art website, I wanted to keep a very professional and sophisticated look, that also had an artistic value within itself. Keeping those goals in mind when choosing the typeface for your website helped me to decide on the typeface: FUTURA PT. The number one reason behind choosing this typeface is because of how large the typeface body is. This typeface includes 22 different styles within the family. This will allow for not only multiple layers of hierarchy throughout the website but will also allow for multiple creative uses, while maintaining a cohesive design. Futura is a very sophisticated Sans Serif font that also has a decorative side to it. This typeface will help the entire website to be easy to read, navigate, and interpret that it’s a fine arts school. Another reason I have chosen this typeface within my redesign is because of its futuristic characteristics and its San-Serif originality, Futura acts as another “Helvetica.” A typeface that can be used with any design. This will allow the HTML and CSS to remain Futura for the body copies and text for the required coding. But because this typeface is very universal, when designing with it, it allows me to design graphics with this typeface. This will really push the sophisticated artist theme throughout the entire website. This will also bring in my own personal touch, as I try to design with typefaces and push the boundaries with typography. (see last page.) Overall, I believe I can push the Yale School of Arts website into artistic sophistication by using and designing the entire website with the typeface: FUTURA PT.
