Also review last week’s PSY635 Week Two Discussion Scenario. 1In that scenario, the three instructors realized there are limits to the insights they can gain through anonymous counting of discussion posts. The instructors would like to answer two additional research questions: (a) How do their students actually feel about the intervention? (b) How do students view the influence of the intervention on their learning inside and outside of the classroom (if applicable)? In your initial post, compare the characteristics of appropriate research designs and recommend a qualitative research design that would facilitate answering the instructors’ additional questions. Various research design is used in research woks. These include survey study, case study, action research, Phenomenological, historical, Ethnography and Grounded theory. The most appropriate research designs the researcher may use here are the survey and case study (Smith, (2015). Case studies are research designs where the researcher aims at understanding of the in- depth experiences or feelings of an individual or a group of people (Smith, (2015). In regard to the study by the professors, the views and feelings of students over research interventions concerning an online course were researched. A case study research design is ease and less expensive to carry out. It can combine a number of data collection methods like observation, recording and participation. In surveys research designs, action research is used to collect information by answering the research questions on the observed events, experiences or feelings. A survey study is interactive and is useful when researching on the perception and beliefs of a certain group (Taylor et al., 2015). Explain the philosophical paradigm underlying the recommended approach. In this study, I will recommend a case study. In this research design, students’ feelings and perception over online research interventions will be explored. The questionnaires will be used to collect data on students’ feelings and view on online intervention. 1Evaluate the required articles for this week and describe the assumptions the instructors might have to set aside as they enter into a qualitative research study. The article under study is the “Experimental Research on Patients with Anorexia Nervosa” by Lock and Le Grange (2015). In such a qualitative research, several assumptions have to be made. One, the nature will produce multiple realities and so provides multiple evidences in which perspectives, beliefs and experiences vary considerably. The second assumption is that the researcher gets closer to participants as possible so that all relevant information can be collected in the study. Third assumption is that, participants will not give biased information. The researcher assumes that the participants are telling the truth about their feelings and perceptions (Smith, (2015). 1Be sure to identify any ethical issues that may apply to the research. Ethical issues in this article included privacy of the participants and confidentiality of the personal information they gave. Participants’ personal information was protected from any intruders. The other ethical consideration is the use of human beings in health research with informed consent. They filled a written consent and were allowed to take part at will (Taylor et al., 2015). 1Review the characteristics of the quantitative approach you described in the Week Two discussion. Quantitative approach is characterized by numerical data collection. The methods used to collect data are structured and follow a systematic procedure in observing, recording and analyzing data in order to arrive to a conclusive conclusion. Quantitative research approaches are expensive. A number of data collection methods are used and usually covers a number of aspects at a go (Smith, (2015). 1Explain the ways in which the quantitative approach and paradigm differs from the qualitative approach and paradigm you have recommended here. Quantitative approaches and paradigm differs from the qualitative ones in the following ways: First, quantitative approaches and paradigms are based on numerical data while qualitative one bases on descriptive information generation. Second, quantitative approaches follows a more structured method of data generation while qualitative approaches follow unstructured and semi- structured techniques of data generation. Third, quantitative approaches require large sample sizes in order to increase degree of freedom and precision while in qualitative study, sample size vary according to the need (Taylor et al., 2015).
