The play incorporates different characters who based on their actions and thoughts helps us understand Minnie Wright traits and motives of killing her husband Mr. Wright. John Wright is found to have been strangled to death in the farmhouse with a rope around his neck. On analyzing the events at the scene, it was established that his wife Mrs. Minnie Wright was the main suspect of the murder. This prompted an investigation in her house by her neighbor Mr. Hale and the County Attorney, Sheriff Peters to find any possible clues of the murder. According to the pieces of the story, we learn that Mrs. Wright’s motive to kill her husband was prompted by Mr. Wright killing the only thing she had in life, the Canary. Minnie Wright had bought the canary to help keep her company as most of the time she felt lonely and had no one to socialize within the farm.

However, the real detectives in the scene turn out to be Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters. The two ladies went on to discover unusual thing with Mrs. Wright’s pet canary when they found out its neck wrung (Ayan, 2016). They went ahead to put the mystery together to establish what had led to this. We are told that Mrs. Wright was a young lady who liked socializing when Mr. Wright married her and took her to the farmhouse. This, however, changed her life forever. It was due to John’s bad temper that made him kill the only canary. This was due to the trivial behaviors that had been portrayed by Mrs. Wright and so he decided to punish her.

Furthermore, we are told that Mrs. Wright neither had children nor visited by friends and so the only thing that kept her company was the canary. Based on the killing of her canary, Mrs. Wright decided to give back a taste to her husband by killing him. During the tingling conclusion of the story, we are told the two ladies Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale hide the evidence bird from the male detectives in the house with a motive to deny them concrete evidence convict Mrs. Wright. This led to a dilemma conclusive questions about justice for women in society.
