Me: Hello, ma’am can you hear me properly?

Varalika: yes, dear

Me: thanks ma’am. Thank you so much for spending your time with me. As we talked earlier I will ask 11 questions as part of interview process of my assignment and you need to answer those.

Varalika: sure, Dear. I will try my best to give you all answers. Please do ignore of some grammatical mistake as my English is not much good.

Me: No worries, ma’am I will correct those. You are spending your time with me is the most important thing.

Varalika: it’s okay, dear

Me: Thanks ma’am, so my first question is What age group do you currently belong?

Varalika: I am 30

Me: okay, thanks. Second one is For how long have you worked in the rural healthcare

facilities in this region?

Varalika: About 1 year, sorry 1.5 years.

Me: thanks, so third one is Why did you choose to work in a rural area as opposed to

the urban regions?

Varalika: yes, so reason for choosing this village was the people of this rural area has limited knowledge for health care facility, so they are also facing lots of health problems compare to city area. So I wanted to serve these poor village people as an opportunity. Actually I did work in private hospital about 10 years than I realized that I should move to area where people really need more help than city so imoved here and working as a community health officer since 1.5 years.

Me: that’s very good ma’am. So my forth question is Which health services and programs are currently availableto the people of this region?

Varalika: yes, dear people of these area has all essential primary care facility available, but only have limited resources like if emergency case comes to us like emergency pregnancy time or some accidental cases, so in those cases we prefer patients to go to civil hospital because we don’t have those resources as well as staff. But, yes normal disease care and all essential primary care drugs we do have in stocks. Government has released various programs and facilities but as I said earlier majority of people of these area are not properly aware of that.

Me: humm, thanks for sharing this information. So, my fifth question is What are your thoughts about access to quality care by the residents of Banaskantha? Like as compare with other metro political city like Ahmedabad.

Varalika: humm, sorry you said Ahmedabad in last?

Me: yes, ma’am sorry my net is not good yes, with compare with Ahmedabad what is our current situation of health care system in our district?

Varalika: yes, so humm government spends funds to regional as well as urban area as requirement of health care. But compare to Ahmedabad we do have some less Fund as well resources available like serious cases of accidents or specialist services are only available at rich city in government sector. In Banas kantha also has specialist services available but that are only available in private hospitals. Cost is very high and that is not affordable for all lower income people.

Me: okay, So my sixth question is Do you travel to offer medical attention to the people whocannot access the facility? Can you explain little bit about your work-load?

Varalika: Yes, dear we give services to the people who need. Like in case of CVD, diabetes, some aged people are completely unaware from these diseases, so we often travel to their home periodically and gives them proper medication and treatment. Also, our ASHA worker travels to check pregnant woman’s health, also takes all nutrition requirement notes as well as they give them proper guidance.

Me: ohh, that is very good. Obviously, you have lot’s of workload. Okay ma’am so my seventh question is What is your opinion regarding the cost of healthcare in the Banaskantha region?

Varalika: yes, so majorly rural people and some lower incomed people are often using government hospital services because of various factors like limited resources and quality care. But, government spends enough fund to various facilities but as I said problem is most of the people are not aware these facilities and programs.

Me: That’s correct ma’am. So my eight question is Do the people in this region prefer government over private health care? Can you explain why they prefer private healthcare?

Varalika: yes, dear as I mentioned already in our primary health care centers, we do have limited resources as well staff available. So serious illness and medical emergency cannot fully cure by us. Also, high profile people’s always look for fast and quality health care, so they first prefer private care rather than government facility.

Me: yes ma’am, so can we move to next question? Only 3 questions are left. I hope you have little bit of time.

Varaliak: Yes, sure dear please go ahead.

Me: okay ma’am thanks, so my 9th question is in the rural area, to what extent does limited resources available affect your ability to provide proper care, which is in line with patient’s expectation?

Varalika: Yes due to limited resources like lower medical equipments, lower staff that can affect delay in health care so people in this region have to move to city for getting fast treatment.

Me: yes ma’am, so next question is how does this affect your ability to provide timely services to the patients?

Varalika: We only give Day care treatment to the patients so that reason people have time limit to access Primary Health care and those facility.

Me: okay So moving to Last question, Which health care facilities Should be necessary in this region but currently not available?

Varalika: There are lots of Medical Equipment, and latest technologies should be necessary for helping these rural people health care services. Sometime we are facing delay in Ambulance Facilities while serious patient needs. So Government is also improving and funding for facility but still more needs

Me: Thanks Varalika ma’am for your time. I appreciate your time to give me in this pandemic situation. So again thank you so much.

Varalika: Thanks.
