Cross-Cultural Training

The ability to understand one's culture is crucial. It ensures that and organization management is appreciative of different cultural beliefs and interacts with the various differences in its employees appropriately. As Noe (2017) explains, offering training and development to employees boosts the human capital in an organization by not only increasing it but also strengthening it.

In the arena of globalization many employees are assigned to travel oversees for work duties, and cross-cultural training is a vital tool. Cross-cultural training will help by promoting intercultural learning, and ensuring a steady flow of management policies in different geographic regions. As a manager having an understanding of the political and economic scenario becomes of utmost importance for the organizations planning to set up new or expand its business in foreign countries. Before an organization sends and employee to and international business, the learning of basic history of the other society, community or country, helps one understand the culture better. Also the planning and goal setting, performance management, cost of assignment compared to return, selection of the perfect employee to fill the position and achieve the goals of management and organization. The challenge to choose the perfect employee begins with selecting employees who may have experience with traveling oversees, or in which management thinks can handle the complexities of an abroad position. Some examples of an employee would be, experienced technical competency, sensitive to the countries norms and values, of course attendance/training in a cross-cultural training program.
