Topic Selection: Final Topic Selection Assignment
Final Topic of Interest: How does animal-assisted therapy affect children in the Latino community who are victims of childhood sexual abuse?
Gap Statement: “Further research examining the effectiveness of AAT across a range of ethnicities to more accurately determine for whom this kind of intervention is most appropriate is needed” (p. 92; Signal, Taylor, Prentice, McDade, Burke, 2017).

This article explores the idea of animal assisted therapy (AAT) in children who have suffered from childhood sexual trauma and demonstrated avoidance related symptomology. The study concluded that there is encouraging evidence that AAT improves some symptomology.
Variables To Be Measured (If Quantitative Example)
This study will use animal assisted therapy as the independent variable and clinical symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder as the dependent variable.
**Note the example below is not related to this quantitative paper, but is a simple example of what a qualitative Final Topic Selection will look like:
Research Strategy (If Qualitative Example)
A phenomenology approach would be most appropriate in answering the research question because the researcher is exploring the lived experience of working mothers in the medical field.
Cultural Consideration
The term “Latino” can encompass several different races, ethnicities, and cultures. I must consider that an individual may identify as ethnically Latino but may have different values, beliefs, and attitudes than others with the same self-identity. This is important to consider because these differences may affect the how individuals understand/perceive trauma.
