Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (TeamSTEPPS) is a systematic approach developed by the Department of Defense and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to integrate teamwork into practice. It is designed to improve the quality, safety, and the efficiency of health care (King, 2016). TeamSTEPPS consists of a collection of instructions, materials and tools to help drive a successful teamwork initiative from the initial planning to implementation through to sustainment (TeamSTEPPS). Furthermore, TeamSTEPPS provides higher quality, safer patient care by: Producing highly effective medical teams that optimize the use of information, people, and resources to achieve the best clinical outcomes for patients; Increasing team awareness and clarifying team roles and responsibilities (Rockville, 2019).
