I plan on using my writing skills in my future courses and my career because a career in Nursing requires good communication and
writing skills. Without the ability to write and communicate effectively, important information can get confusing. During this class I learned to use the rhetorical techniques as a form of persuasion. When choosing my sources, I learned during this class that it is important to find sources that are reliable and factual. It is very important to know your sources before using them in your writing. I think my skills improved as a whole during this class by helping to use them all together more effectively. Writing, citing my sources, and checking my sources to make sure they are reliable and not fake. By having all of these more well rounded, my writing techniques are more educated and easier to use. My two favorite reading assignments from this course were one of the very first ones about Martin Luther King Jr. and one of our most recent ones about today’s teaching style being more of a memorization technique than a learning style. I think both of these were interesting and captured my attention, but they also developed my skills because they were interesting and easy to write about. The assignment about today’s teaching being more of a memorization was really something that hit home for me because in trying to help my niece with some of her school work, it was difficult for me to recall learning some of it. It made it hit home more because I was actually going through it.
Summer Cooper Yesterday
1. I plan on using my writing skills for future courses for classes such as freshman composition and for other courses where I will have to write informative and persuasive essays. Especially, the MLA
format will be very useful in the future for papers I will have to write. 2. In this class, I learned how rhetorical techniques can affect the perception of one’s writing
to the reader. There are many ways to do this an example being Logos, Pathos, and Ethos.
3. I learn that when choosing a resource there are some criteria to meet and some research to be done before the resource should be used. For, example checking the website name, the author, the date of the article resource, and if there is any bias in the article.
4. I think my writing skills improved during this course by being consistent with my work. By consistently and constantly doing writing work and reading articles and stories I have been able to keep up with the new knowledge and put it to use in a helpful healthy way.
5. I think my favorite writing assignment for the course was Paulo Friere’s Pedagogy of the Oppressed and Michael Foucault. From this writing, I think I learned skills of analyzing text and searching for the meaning. Both of these writings are very in-depth topics of societal issues and the effects of the world. If one were to just quickly brush over it they wouldn’t get the meaning. So these stories enhanced my analyzing skills.
