The YMCA’s mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body. The Y is committed to strengthening communities through healthy living, youth development, and social responsibility. The Y is committed to improving the nation’s health, through health and wellness programs and activities. In terms of youth development, the Y is committed to nurturing each child’s potential. Lastly, the Y is committed to bringing about social change through giving and social services. The organization’s vision can influence ethics in many ways. The organization’s fiscal management can influence ethics. The YMCA is a non-profit organization. However, the Y is a business and revenue is generated through membership and program fees. The author’s current association generates close to $35 million in revenue. Ensuring that majority of those funds align with the non-profit aspect and are going back into programs to improve healthy living, youth development, and social responsibility is important. The YMCA has an ethical responsibility to uphold the vision shared to communities across the globe. Modeling appropriate fiscal management can aid staff in applying best practices. McCarthy (2014) speaks to the positive impact of coaching and modeling behaviors to affect organizational change. The author’s organization offers training in fiscal management and advance fiscal management. This training aims to improve staffs’ budgeting skills to remain fiscal responsible. This is a form of coaching staff and modeling behaviors to positive impact the organization. Moreover, this type of training reduces any unethical behaviors as it relates to fiscal management.
