What is the difference between a manager and a leader?
A manager is a person who supervises and motivates employees to move the company in the right direction. A leader is a person that is considered a visionary who finds ways to make improvements to the company. Leaders also help people reach their goals.
Examples of a manager are:
1. The person who oversees the college store on campus. The manager is responsible for ordering supplies, merchandise and handling customers disputes. This person also supervises the staff.
2. A customers service manager at Verizon Wireless is the person who is over the customer service representatives.
3. The Manager at Wal-Mart is the person who is over the employee of the store.
Examples of a leader are:
1. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was an exceptional leader. He was a great visionary who wanted a better life for all people.
2. Nelson Mandela was a great Civil rights leader during the 20th century.
3. The President of the United States is a leader who has a long-range perspective to make a difference in the world for all people.

Mangers
1. Managers maintain and execute things that are already in place. Ex. managers make sure that activities from day to day are performed the proper way.
2. Manager "accept the status quo" meaning to keep things the way they already are. Most managers rather keep things the way they are for the business' sake.
3. Managers tend to focus more on systems, planning and organizing to make sure that goals are set and reached.
Leaders
1. Leaders tend to create and change things while taking risk. They do not stick to the regular like managers.
2. Leaders challenge the "status quo". They like the challenge of creating new waves.
3. Leaders are all authentic and different. This is important because leaders go out their way to make sure their people achieve their goals while achieving their own.
