DQ 8-2
Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Affirmative Action (AA) are not required in today's evolved organizational climate. EEO and AA enforce quotas on organizations that must be met during the hiring process, thus requiring them to hire unqualified people. Evaluate this statement. Do you agree or disagree? Explain.
This question definitely has an interpretation, I believe, that is not correct. The Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), is defined as “freedom from discrimination on the basis of protected classes such as race, color, sex, national origin, religion, age, disability or genetic information. While, Affirmative action (AA) is defined by an employer’s standard for proactively recruiting, hiring, and promoting, women, minorities, disabled individuals and veterans. (https://www.shrm.org/resourcesandtools/tools-and-samples/hr-qa/pages/cms_013810.aspx).
Every company deals with both EEO and AA; however, if the applicant does not meet the requirements of the facility, working conditions, or productivity rate there should be no diversity in whether or not the applicant should be hired, this should be a standard procedure following certain criteria based on the laws of EEO and Affirmative Action. Affirmative Action does prevent wrong doing in the hiring process while a male or a female should be promoted but I do believe there should again be standard procedures for this particular manner. Promotions and hiring should be based on qualifications not race, gender, minorities, or disabled individuals or veterans. If the job performance can be completed by an individual regarding the standard procedures of the company and qualifications are met then there should be no discrimination against anyone.
Affirmative action refers to a policy that is designed to encourage employment opportunity to a different level for certain groups because of discrimination. There are strict rules with any hiring process and well qualified personnel should be considered, not based on any discrimination, so in this aspect I believe Affirmative action has evolved along with EEO.
An employer should “explain their hiring and recruitment policies and promotional decision initially to the all employees”. (https://www.eeoc.gov/employers/smallbusiness/checklists/recruiting_hiring_promoting.cfm). The screening process should provide the same standards for all employees who are applying for the same position in the company. This process helps to contain both Affirmative Action and eliminate discrimination.
