Swallowing my pride and seeking help, has always been an issue for me. I’ve always been the one to refuse help, thinking I can manage anything on my own, being independent at all cause. Not seeking help has worked has worked for years, I’ve accomplished almost every goal I sought out, but then came English 105. Throughout this course I’ve missed numerous deadlines, and most importantly peer reviews. One of the most important part to my development as a writer was accepting the help of my peers through peer review. By missing the deadlines on the first two peer reviews, I was in a predicament because no one read my work but myself. It was after having the benefit of the peer review that I was able to focus on the essay, read the notes provided and then deconstruct and rebuild my essays. By properly utilizing peer review, all my sought out questions to my writing approach were being answered from multiple opinions, which allowed me to see the mistakes of my approach, break down and build up my essays, and see how my sentences were poorly structured, and not being clear and concise on my argumentative stance.
For the writing portfolio, I have chosen the major writing assignments from week 2 and week 5. Although I struggled early on, I feel this was my greatest improvement. The main issues I would like to work on is being clear on the purpose of the topic, poorly structured sentences, and taking a better argumentative stance. I believe I can accomplish this through the organizational structure of addressing misconceptions. I want to be more persuasive and get my point across timely, without any confusion of what I believe in.
