The Discussion (20 points)

Context: As we’ve seen in our readings this semester, the majority of scholarly works incorporate an introduction, a literature review of some kind, a study, discussion, and conclusion. All parts of the essay work together to prove that the author is well read, logically making connections between texts and practice, and capable of bringing a fresh perspective to a subject that several people are invested in. We don’t have time to perform a study. Still, after completing twelve weeks’ worth of research, we’ll end the semester putting your work to good use!

Assignment: Use this short essay to interpret the research you have found, identify and discuss a concept that needs further attention, and present your own logical perspective or suggest a new direction for others to take when discussing that concept in the future.

Requirements:

· MLA or APA formatted page settings and citation methods

· Incorporate at least 4 sources (2 of which must be new)

· 3-4 pages (a Works Cited/Reference page does not “count”)

Getting Started:

1) Honestly, why did you choose the research topic that you did?

2) Before researching, what was your perspective on the matter?

3) What have you learned about your topic by doing such extensive research?

4) What about others’ contributions to your topic interested or frustrated you most?

5) What do you feel has not been addressed and/or needs further attention?

6) If you had the opportunity to argue any one point, what would it be, and why does that point need to be shared?

a) Note the difference between voicing an opinion (i.e. a personal preference that others can only agree/disagree with -- opinionated arguments aren’t very helpful) and progressing the conversation (e.g. updating out-dated research, providing fresh applications with cross disciplinary insight, suggesting alternative methods or actions to improve results, questioning theory vs. practice, etc.)
