CE 416: TERM PAPER GUIDELINES 1
CE 416: Term Project Guidelines A term paper is a requirement in this course. Form a group of four or five (on-campus students) and the group is optional for DEDP students. Then pick the topic (with my consent) after you have familiarized yourself with the course or I can provide topics if you can’t pick your title. The term paper is expected to increase your technical writing skill. To write a good term paper, I would advise you to consider the following useful tips:
Organize the paper methodologically. o Suggested outline for a term paper on literature review, which is recommended
for an individual, could be:
1. Title page 2. Abstract 3. Introduction 4. Problem Statement 5. Literature Review: Divide into subsections 6. Summary and Conclusions 7. Recommendations 8. References
o Suggested outline for a term paper that includes data analysis, which is highly recommended for a group, could be: 1. Title page 2. Abstract 3. Introduction 4. Problem Statement 5. Test Sections and Data Collection 6. Data Analysis 7. Results and Discussions 8. Conclusions and Recommendations 9. References
Write in a simple and clear manner.
Check spelling and grammar.
Use at least five references from good technical publications, e.g., ASCE Journal of
Transportation Engineering, Transportation Research Record: Journal of Transportation Research Board, International Journal of Pavement Engineering, Concrete Construction, Better Roads, etc. Keep away from newsletters, Wikipedia, etc. Your references should include the author(s), title, publisher or journal, volume, number (if any), place, and date of publication. Use ASCE’s guide for reference writing.
The length of the paper should not be less than 8 pages from introduction to conclusions, double-spaced typed pages. Use Times New Roman, 12-point font to ensure uniformity.

Cases of dishonesty may be treated as an academic matter or as a disciplinary matter at the discretion of the instructor. Plagiarism: the appropriation, buying, receiving as a gift, or obtaining by any means another person’s work and the unacknowledged submission or incorporation of it in one’s own work. SafeAssign is a plagiarism prevention service that allows the instructor to protect the originality of work and ensure a fair playing ground for all of the students. SafeAssign is integrated with Blackboard and prevents plagiarism by detecting unoriginal content in student papers. You will submit your term paper through SafeAssign on Blackboard (Microsoft Word file only) in addition to a PDF file for all groups and/or individuals. The due date for online submission is May 7, 2023 midnight Central. Collusion: unauthorized collaboration with another person in preparing any academic work offered for credit.
