Technology Trends Worksheet II

Select one of the technology trends identified in the Week 2 Technology Trends Proposal Part l assignment, and research the privacy risks, security safeguards, and strategies for evaluating the effectiveness of the technology selected.

Complete the table below by describing the privacy risks, security safeguards and the strategies for evaluating the effectiveness of the technology trend you selected.

Selected Technology Trend

Telemedicine

Describe the Privacy Risks (75 to 150 words)

Virtue technologies enable the delivery of health care services to many people in different places at a lower cost. Telemedicine utilizes technology to provide doctor-patient interactions, deliver quality care and facilitate the needed services without visiting the health facility. Since telemedicine introduces new tools that enable information sharing across more locations, it is adding to the overall “attach surface” of Medicare in general (Jalali et al., 2021). Telemedicine adds to this risk exposure in vital areas of cyber threats such as lack of informed consent, physical security risks, increased third part risks, increased compliance requirements, technology failure, etc.

Describe the Security Safeguards (75 to 150 words)

In order to meet the security safeguards of virtue healthcare and HIPAA compliance, it is vital to adopt best practices such as the use of VPN, Network Access Control, and application security. Public Wi-Fi poses a significant exposure risk to telemedicine networks. Users who connect to the Telemedicine network via Wi-Fi are highly susceptible to attacks from hackers. A great way of safeguarding telemedicine networks from cyber-attacks is utilizing VPN while on public W-Fi (Hughey, 2020). Telemedicine app users should download the apps from reputable sources only. Equally, only vetted telecommunication should be used. Network Access control forms a critical line of cyber defense, significantly enhancing visibility over the entire network. NAC ensures that only the right user can access and delete data deemed relevant to their purpose.

Describe the Strategies for Evaluating the Effectiveness (75 to 150 words)

The efficacy of Telemedicine can be evaluated based on its purpose, scope, and target audience. Health outcomes of Telemedicine, when compared with conventional methods among patients with chronic illness, can determine the efficacy of Telemedicine in healthcare delivery and healthcare outcomes. Recent studies show that Telemedicine has enhanced healthcare outcomes for people with the chronic disease since the outbreak of COVID-19. The quality and cost of Telemedicine also determine its efficacy in delivering exceptional healthcare outcomes (de Jong et al, 2020). Telemedicine impact the quality of and cost of healthcare delivery in areas like aces, safety, effectiveness, cost, and equity. Stay at home restrictions minimizes physical visits to the hospital facilities. Telemedicine can thus be evaluated on its efficacy in delivering quality healthcare at a lower cost.
