Technology is one of the essential factors in the business world today. The application of technology can be useful in solving various challenges in organizations today. The criminal justice system is one of the departments in organizations that have been impacted positively by technology and information systems. This paper seeks to establish the influence technology, and information systems have on the criminal justice system. In the study, the role of technology and information system in contributing to crime will be discussed. Also, how technology can be used in solving the problems of crime in the criminal justice system is explained.

Technology has aided criminals in carrying out different criminal activities in business. The application of technology has enabled criminals to carry out their activities anonymously. Also, people have availed too much information online because of new sets of technology social media advances. Consequently, there have been many criminal activities like card theft, cyberbullying, and theft of identity which are part of the many crimes aided through technology (Hollywood et al., 2018). Similarly, there are many cases of phone and email spam which would aid the criminals to gain access to information with much ease. The popularity of smartphones has aided in crimes like phishing or spoofing. Technology can, therefore, be said to be a significant way in which the problems of criminal justice begin.

To solve the challenges in criminal justice, various technologies can be used in creating a solution to such criminal acts. One of such technologies is the rapid identification systems technology to help in reducing the level of crime in the criminal justice system. The RIS is an information system technology which helps in keeping the data of people and as such the criminal history of an individual can be easily traced. The identification systems help in recognizing the various people through unique systems like the faces, fingerprints, and palm prints to help in preventing criminal activities like identity theft (Moriarty, 2017). There is a constant update on the technology to help in getting new information for the citizens making it easier to examine people effectively.

Technology and information system help in minimizing criminal activities through the application of sensors that can provide better quality information in regards to the illegal activities. Without technology, the quality of the information provided in regards to criminal activities is relatively low, and as such it enables the offenders to get away with the crime. Application of technology like sensors and CCTV provide the police with better information like the particular time, and how the crime was committed (Siegel & Worrall, 2018). Additionally, technology like ShotSpotter has improved on how the police are dealing with gun-related criminal activities. It provided a detailed report that would aid the police in the decision making the process. The ability of technology and information systems to improve on the quality of the information concerning an incident of crime is a way of applying technology in solving the challenges of the criminal justice system.

In conclusion, technology and information systems have had a significant influence on the criminal justice system. Technology has enabled the criminals to successfully carry out their activities without identification making cases of identity theft, cyberbullying, and card theft. However, there has been the development of technology to help in curbing criminal activities. The Rapid Identification Systems, sensors, and CCTV camera are part of the technologies that are applicable to help in decision making in the criminal justice system.
