The client I am working with is a young adult, pregnant and homeless. She expressed concerns about “living on the streets” her first three month of pregnancy. The problem for the client is her living situation and roommate. The client is employed at a supermarket but her current financial situation is unpredictable with a newborn coming soon. |
2. Indicate the goal/goals you and your client MUTUALLY agreed upon. 2 points

Goal: Obtain permanent housing |
3. Identify 5-8 tasks associated with each specified goal to be performed in order to reach the goal/goals. Specify which tasks you will be responsible for and the tasks the client will be responsible for. 2 points

|
Task 2: Develop a budget over the next month. Owner: Melissa/Client |

4. Explain how each of these tasks is directly related to the client’s problem/goal. 2 points
Task 1 seeks to ensure the client has initiated processes with securing a house before she delivers. In addition, the task establishes rapport and communication related to completing her housing application with the client/worker relationship. Task 2 helps the client have an estimate of what her budget and her ability to pay for basic necessities such as food and housing. Task 3 will help the client connect with the Department of Social Services case worker for available housing options. Task 4 will help the client have alternative housing if the housing application is waitlisted. Task 5 seeks to help the client improve long-term life changes of obtaining housing.

7. Write a brief summary of the results. Indicate what work needs to be done mutually between you and the client to reach the goal or each of the goals, including how you and your client will move through the steps of the Task Implementation Sequence (TIS). The steps of the TIS are: 2 points (please touch on all of the following) (The TIS is summarized in the Hepworth chapter 13)
· Enhance the client’s commitment to carry out tasks.
To enhance the commitment for the client to carry out tasks is a mutual obligation. This will involve sending her messages to help her decide after exploring the client’s housing preference. This step also gives the client valuable information concerning their expectations of permanent housing (Hepworth, 2017). The information given to the client was meant to give her hope and impact her ability to decide to attain her goal of getting permanent housing. This is because most clients who got permanent housing had attested that they got motivation from someone before attaining their goals, especially when they needed the motivation most.
· Plan the details of carrying out tasks.
The first step shall be exploring the client’s housing preference. This will give a clear picture of what the client wants and how much she can afford. After coming across some of the possible houses, we shall have an open discussion on what both of us think. This conversation should be an honest one whereby we can disagree in some instances but not being afraid to share it. Then I will educate the client on housing options and remain connected to her even in negative reactions. To avoid power struggles with the client, I will provide as much choice as possible while linking my aspirations to her suggestions. Later, at the end of the program, I shall reflect on what was helpful and what was not.
· Analyze and resolve obstacles.
The major obstacles to the process are the lack of funding since she is not yet eligible to be funded by DSS. To overcome this challenge, the client can stay in transitional housing for some time as she waits to qualify for DSS funding. In instances where we disagreed on opinions, I would choose to try her suggestions, then later, if it is unsuccessful, try mine.
· Rehearse or practice behaviors involved in tasks.
The practice behaviors involved in the task is miscommunication with the client. This is because mostly, the client failed to consider other options if not permanent housing. I interpreted that statement that she wanted to buy her own apartment but later realized that she wanted a house that she does not share a door with a neighbor.
· Summarize the task plan.
The task plan involves searching for a permanent residence for a female client who is pregnant. This process is tedious, but worth it. So far, we have not been successful in finding one but have managed to get transitional housing as we wait for the permanent residence.
