COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course provides an understanding of the concepts and fundamentals of information systems and information technologies, the challenges of designing and implementing them, and their potential impact on the organization. The course covers the strategic role of information technology; the corporate impact of information technology; building blocks of information technology (data, knowledge and information); the Internet and e-business; information systems development; and information technology infrastructure, architecture and management. |

COURSE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
Upon the successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Understand the components of current information systems and technologies.
2. Align information systems and technologies with organizational strategies
3. Discuss emerging issues in the management of information systems.
4. Gather appropriate academic and business references to research an IT-related topic.

CLASS ASSIGNMENTS AND EVALUATION
GRADING POLICY AND PROCEDURES:
The course grade will be determined by evaluation of each major activity. Students are responsible for all material covered in the text, online discussions, readings, and exercises & cases.
GRADING STRUCTURE:
A = 90 - 100
B+ = 87 - 89
B = 80 - 86
C+ = 77 - 79
C = 70 - 76
D = 60 - 69

LATE ASSIGNMENTS AND ABSENTEE POLICY:
1. All work not turned in by the end of the 8 weeks will earn a grade of zero or result in an “I” for the term grade at the discretion of the professor.
In online classes, material turned in after the deadline will not be graded and students will receive a grade of zero.
2. All exams, papers, and other submitted materials become the property of the professor unless otherwise stated.
3. All papers, assignments and exams will be taken and submitted via the course Canvas site by the deadlines posted in the syllabus and on the course website. Papers, assignments, and exams not submitted on time or in the correct format will not receive full credit.

Protocol for Electronic Submission of Course Work:
Students bear sole responsibility for ensuring that papers or assignments submitted electronically to a professor are received in a timely manner and in the electronic format(s) specified by the professor. Students are therefore obliged to have their e-mail client issue a receipt verifying that the document has been received. Students are also strongly advised to retain a copy of the dated submission on a separate disk.
