· Using the Creative Close Reading Steps, read Part I in Burning Bright (the first six stories): “Hard Times,” “Back of Beyond,” “Dead Confederates,” “The Ascent,” “The Woman Who Believed in Jaguars,” and “Burning Bright” (pages 3-123). Tip: read one story per day! Study Freytag’s Pyramid and familiarize yourself with the Fiction Terms glossary as needed. Be prepared to quiz.
