Module 3 – Storytelling
Module description:
In this module, you will explore storytelling principles, so you are able to:
▪ Identify criteria for effective storytelling
▪ Create effective digital stories
▪ Incorporate storytelling principles into your multimedia learning solutions
The module in a nutshell:
When you are reviewing the learning materials in this module, try to identify
storytelling techniques and recommendations that can make your multimedia lessons
more conducive to learning. Some digital storytelling recommendations that we can
quickly highlight include:
▪ Choosing a short interesting story with an educational message that is
appropriate for your targeted audience
▪ Making sure your audience can identify with characters of your story
▪ Making sure that the story has an introduction, unfolding events, and a
conclusion that stresses the intended educational message
▪ Planning and thinking it through on paper
▪ Rehearsing thoroughly, so you sound natural and real
▪ Making sure that images and background sounds are connected to the story
▪ Inserting control buttons into your multimedia story, so learners can control its
pace if they choose to do so
