I would thoroughly invest into Target. Many times companies are sought out because of how often they are in the news. Target is a company that is not only diverse, but a company that listens to the needs, wants and concerns of their loyal customers. Target embraces innovation to drive strong financial performance and create new opportunities for profitable growth. From larger size clothing options to their views on inclusive families this is a company that I am proud to stand behind. According to Grant (n.d.),” One way earnings influence the price of the stock is how well a company performs against expectations. Before most companies report their quarterly financial results, analysts predict the EPS for the quarter based on the company's guidance and other factors.” (Earnings vs. Projections). You can easily follow along to Target’s stock options due to the few amounts of bad press and attention that the company receives. Market capitalization refers to the total value of all a company's shares of stock. It is calculated by multiplying the price of a stock by its total number of outstanding shares. Using market capitalization to show the size of a company is important because company size is a basic determinant of various characteristics in which investors are interested, including risk. It is important to keep in mind that classifications such as "large cap" or "small cap” which are used to show the financial capitalization of a company are only approximations that change over time. Due to its simplicity, market-cap weighting has long time go to means of calculating the value of market indexes. When used as an investment strategy, market-cap weighting has limitations, some which frequently results in enormous proportions of glorified stocks, and less-than-optimal exposure to undervalued stocks. The use of beta solutions seeks to expand investors’ options by providing exposure to objective, rules-based practices that harvest returns from specific investment factors or deliver broad market exposure through alternative weighting strategies. According to Coleman (n.d.) “A stock or other investment’s beta coefficient is a measurement of its risk when comparing that single stock to the broader market as a whole.” (What Is a Beta Coefficient?). This simply shows that we can’t always compare one company and their numbers to another. There are insiders’ knowledge that we simply are unaware of that motivates the market. By investing or removing shares from a company based on hearsay is simply unacceptable. A well-diversified portfolio of stocks may have some stocks with high betas and some with low betas in order to help ensure that portions of an investor’s portfolio are doing well during most periods of the market. A well-diversified investment portfolio will help smooth out the ups and downs of the stock market. Understanding the beta coefficient of the stocks and other investments an investor owns is just another tool that can be used to increase the knowledge of the investor.
