Does the use of social media tend to improve or harm relationships?

Hi Class,

I use social media and have been on social media since there was the AOL chat and Myspace (Eek, I feel old). I feel like Myspace was a trend and Facebook is where I got connected to my out of state family and friends. They get to see my children grow up and we get to share our lives with one another. So, I chose to write about whether the use of social media tends to improve or harm relationships. Well, currently my fiancé does not partake in the social media world and after watching the documentary about the social called "The Social Dilemma," I did think twice about keeping my account. But I see my Facebook as a photo album and revisit special memories on a daily basis and just for that reason I could not delete my account. So before choosing my topic I looked it up and made sure I had enough information and the research I find will help me write my final paper. When researching my question an article came up in the results that talked about pew research, and it had some really interesting facts. I have a nephew that is dating a girl who are both on the water polo team and both are on social media. During this 5-week course I will conduct my own research and will use my nephew and his girlfriends as a study. I'm looking forward to it and can’t wait for the results.
