Identify the Internal and External Stakeholders
An internal stakeholder is a person group of people who are directly affected by the performance of a particular business. They include managers, creditors, employees, shareholders, customers, business partners, suppliers and owners among others. They are involved in the business operations directly. An external stakeholder, on the other hand, is a person, a group or even an organization that are not affected by the actions of the business directly (Cardwell, Williams & Pyle, 2017). They are not involved in the process of making the business' decisions and other business affairs. External shareholders include community people in business, politicians, analysts, stock borers, government entities, the general public, and potential investors as well.
For the case of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the government of the United States would be regarded as a significant internal stakeholder. This is because, on top of being the founders of the organizations, they take part in making the policies that are followed by the department in the quest for making the country safe. Another example of internal stakeholders of the department is the Secretary General of the Department of Homeland Security together with his staff. They participate directly in everyday activities of the department and in case of anything that is amiss, they are the ones to take all the blame. The most crucial internal stakeholder of the department, however, is the employees, since they are the one who does all the manual work, working hard to make sure the country is as safe as possible (Baggett, 2018). The general public is directly affected by the performance of homeland security. If homeland security performs well, they are kept safe. However, if they do not perform as they should, the general public becomes the victims since they might lose their jobs from aliens, they might lose their lives, properties and families in case of terror attacks. In general, they suffer because of the failed government policies if the United States since in most cases they poor policies result in the underperformance of the Homeland Securities.
On another hand, an external stakeholder in the Department of Homeland Security can be for instance the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Its job mainly entails securing the compromises of the nation caused by immigrants by granting immigration and citizenship benefits to only those who come to the United States legally. Another external stakeholder is the Customs and Border Protection (CBP). This is the most prominent part of Homeland Security (Customs, U. S., & Protection, 2016). Its task is to keep out of the United States terrorists and their weapons hence preventing them from causing terror attacks to the country. This ensures the safety of United States citizens. The United States Coast Guard (USCG) can also be regarded as an external stakeholder. Its main job is to protect the marine environment and the economic benefits that come from marine life, defend the coastal borders and save people who are in severe dangers in the sea like sea accidents such as capsizing of ships and dangerous sea storms.
Discuss how internal or external stakeholders have influenced the situation in a positive or negative way
In these circumstances where illegal immigration is the order of the day, the internal stakeholders are to be blamed for hurting the situation. It is likely that the president would leader would not listen to the people on top positions but would need to use the people in the Congress to pass the immigration laws. These are the circumstances that would make the protection of the homeland security a challenge since the commander in chief shall have violated the law (Williams, 2016). All arms of the government should be able to come together and consult with the victims so that there is a common policy developed to help the people in the government come up with the solution for the situation. When all of the stakeholders can come together, it means the citizens would feel safer and avoid living in fear of the security threats posed by the people coming to the country illegally. The harmony has already been achieved in Europe and as such the United States could also apply the same strategies.
How would you consider stakeholders in your solution to the problem?
The stakeholders could be considered to be a solution to the problem if they were to unite and speak in one voice with the intent to solve the challenge of illegal immigration. The unity of the stakeholders would make them not worried about the failed policies because all of them would be making contributions in developing and implementing the policies (Morag, 2018). There is a need also to provide the people in charge of term limits. When people are aware of the term limits, they can work hard during their term in office to make the lives of the people better. Furthermore, when the stakeholders have their term limits, it is possible that one can be held accountable for the actions they are taking while they are in office. There is a need for accountability for the people holding the office so that the common citizens are not in most of the cases the one to get hurt and killed due to the insecurity.
How would you motivate people to buy into your solution?
The people can get persuaded in buying the recommendation of this study when there is a clear explanation of how the policies are likely to work. The plan to get the people believing is begun by eliminating the nonconforming stakeholders in the offices they hold. Running affairs of the public safety requires that the officers in charge of all work in unison with all of them in support of the policies proposed. Additionally, there is a need to immediately implement the proposal on the term limits so that those who have worked beyond the proposed timeline would need to quit their positions. Different strategies on getting the performance appraisal would also assist in the citizens in understanding the value for paying those who hold office. Another way of motivating the people into the idea is to have public participation so that they have the feeling of inclusion into the matters regarding their security.
