Here is how I did the SPSS computations for Exercise 33 Example

It appeared to me that the Degree needed to be a numerical value in order for it to filter the different degrees for the test.

· Especially note how I defined DEGREE

· The width does not necessarily have to be 9 that was left over from my first attempt at following the example on page 381

· Next what I did was click in the values cell and define what 1, 2, and 3 represent after filling in Value and Label, click ADD each time, then OK

Unlike the example on page 381, my data view looks like this. I entered 1, 2, or 3 into the Degree

next follow the steps on page 382 and you should get the screen values suggested in the exercise.
