Part I: Reading Statistics (Use Balcetis & Dunning, 2010 Study 1)
1. How many participants were in the study? (1 pts)
2. What were the hypotheses in Study 1? (Note: make sure you write hypotheses for both dependent variables) (2 pts)
3. What is the independent variable? Is it categorical or continuous? How many groups are they comparing, and what are those groups? (1.5 pts)

Part II: Descriptive Statistics in SPSS
· Enter the data in SPSS. You can make up whatever variable names make sense to you, but be sure to include variable and value labels. All variables should be numeric, so be sure to code gender as a number.
· Look over the questionnaire. You will want a higher number to indicate higher satisfaction with one’s relationship.
· Compute the total score on the Relationship Assessment Scale (RAS; Hendrick, 1988) by computing the sum of the 7 questions. Come up with a name for your new (summed) variable that makes sense.
· Check your data for errors by manually checking your data entry and/or by using SPSS. You should have no missing data – if you do, you made an error somewhere along the lines. If there are errors, make corrections to your data set and re-check until you are sure you have no errors with date entry, recoding, or computing.
· Save dataset to your drive.
