What am I required to do in this assignment?

Assessment 1 scenario

The assessment is a case study of the relationships between sport and social justice as they apply to a case study of a relevant sport pr physical activity issue or problem around social inequality and social division.

The focus of the case study has to be formally agreed by the unit tutor and shall be supported through seminars and tutorials that will provide formative feedback to help you understand the chosen topic and also ensure your autonomy in the completion of the assessment.

The final case study will be presented in two formats: 1) as an infographic and 32) a written document of 1000 words offering supporting information (appropriate academic definitions / concepts) and relevant interpretation / explanation relating to the case study examined.

What do I need to do to pass? (Threshold Expectations from UIF)

Research, identify and review research on social division and social inequality with contemporary sport

Demonstrate understanding of the place and role of sport in respect to racial and socioeconomic division and various forms of social inequality

Communicate through oral, visual and written mediums the scope and role of sport in promoting social justice

You will produce an infographic suitable for a professional audience

You will demonstrate the ability to interpret and analyse the scope and role of sport in promoting social justice by producing a clearly written document that makes concise reference to a range of theories and concepts from critical sport sociology

How does this assignment relate to what we are doing in scheduled sessions?

This assignment allows you to consider the theoretical and conceptual sociological perspectives covered during lectures and workshops with direct relevance to a real world sport, diversity and social justice issue and scenario of your interest. The practical elements of this assignment encourages active and ongoing peer collaboration, peer-evaluation and self-reflection of the scope and role of sport in promoting social justice.
