Mahatma Ghandi- led independence from British Rule on the Indian National Congress, lawyer, political ethicist (“The future depends on what we do in the present”)- nominated several times for Nobel

Martin Luther King Jr.- I have a dream, led Civil Rights Movement via non-violence ( “A riot is the language of the unheard”) nobel 1964

Mother Teresa- “If you judge people, you have no time to love them” Nun from the catholic church, founder of the Order of the Missionaries of Charity- dedicated to helping the poor. Helped with hospice care, blind, disabled, etc. nobel in 1979

Nelson Mandela- Former president of S. Africa, elected 1994. Political leader and philanthropist. African national congress, helped form the ANC Youth League, establishe the first black law frim in 1952, he was arreseted repeatedly for protest. Set up many foundations to help children and people “ real leaders must be ready to sacrifice all for the freedom of their people” nobel in 1993

Abraham lincolin -16th president of the us. Led the civil ward, lawyer, legislator, very vocal about ending slavery. Wrote the emancipation proclamation that paved the way to end slavery “ Be sure you put your feet in the right place, then stand firm” “those who look for the bad in people will surely find it”

Albert Schweitzer- “do something wonderful, people may imitate it” Missionary work as a doctor and surgeon, pastor, and writer Nobel in 1952

All won a nobel peace prize
